The long-awaited PS5 version of the exciting Japanese action role-playing video game,Ys 9: Monstrum Nox, finally has a release date trailer in which the main protagonists are also presented alongside their abilities. ThePlayStation 5version of the game will also include all previously released DLC.
Ys 9: Monstrum Noxwas already released for the PlayStation 4, first in 2019 in Japan, then followed up by a global release in 2021. Unfortunately, it doesn’t seem like there would be an upgrade path for gamers who already owned the game on PlayStation 4. However, PS5 owners will be able to enjoy some notable improvements, such as improved graphics and a better frame rate.

Falcolm announced that the nativePlayStation 5 version ofYs IX: Monstrum Noxwill be released on July 02, 2025, in North America and May 23, 2025, in Europe. Gamers can also preorder a physical limited edition version of the game for $89.99, which features the game alongside different goodies. These include a Collector’s Box, a 200-piece puzzle, an art card collection, The Lost Sword short novel, a hardcover art book, and a CD containing the official soundtrack of the game.
The trailer released by NIS America and developer Nihon Falcom showcases the 6 playablecharacters of the game known as the Monstrums, and their special powers, called Gifts. The Crimson King is seen utilizing Crimson Line enabling him to rapidly charge towards the closest chosen location, while The White Cat uses Heaven’s Run to run up the walls vertically. The Doll makes good use of her Third Eye ability to see hidden pathways or details, and the Raging Bull’s Valkyrie Hammer can break down shattered walls. The Hawk can be observed using Hunter’s Descent, an ability that allows him to glide for a short distance. Finally, The Renegade is shown using his Shadow Dive to slide through different obstacles.
The game’s story follows protagonist Adol Christin, an adventurer who finds himself in captivity in the city of Balduq, occupied by The Romun Empire. After meeting a mysterious woman, he gains supernatural powers and becomes a Monstrum. Adol then sets out on a quest to discover the strange secrets of Balduq, and the Monstrum curse, all the while meeting several othercolorful characters affected by the same Monstrum curse.
Additionally, Adol Christin will also be the playable protagonist in the next game in the series. Developer Nihon Falcom excited the series’ fans by recently announcing theirnext upcoming gameYs 10: Nordics, which will be available on PS5, PS4, and Switch.
