TheWWEvideo game series introduced General Manager mode inWWE SmackDown vs. Raw 2006, with the mode making a comeback inSmackDown vs. Raw 2007and2008. Unfortunately, General Manager mode was removed fromSmackDown vs. Raw 2009and hasn’t returned to the pro wrestling game franchise since. However, a new report indicates that could be changing with the upcomingWWE 2K22, which will apparently seeGeneral Manager modemake its long awaited return after over a decade of waiting.

This is according to a report by SportsGamersOnline, citing “sources” that have said thatWWE 2K22General Manager mode is a “top priority” for the team at Visual Concepts. If SGO’s sources are to be believed,WWE 2K22’s General Manager mode is going to be one of the most popular modes in the entire game, with one source going as far as to claim that the mode will be what sells people onWWE 2K22.

SGO stopped short of offering a detailed explanation as to whatWWE 2K22GM mode will entail, but that information should come in January. It was already confirmed shortly after theWWE 2K22SummerSlam trailerwas revealed that more information on the game’s modes and features will come to light in January, so this does track with official information. Even so, SGO does not provide concrete evidence to back up their claims, so it may be best to take this info with a grain of salt for now.

This isn’t the first positive report that’s come out aboutWWE 2K22. A previous report claimed that people behind the scenes are very impressed with what they’ve seen of the game so far, with praise given toWWE 2K22’s rebuilt engine. It seems as though the developers have taken theWWE 2K20backlash seriously and are working hard to turn things around for the franchise, an effort that should be aided by the new game’s extended development time.

WWE 2K22has been in development longer than any otherWWEvideo game has in decades. The severe backlash toWWE 2K20saw2K Sports cancel its plans forWWE 2K21and give the team extra time to work onWWE 2K22. This means that 2020 and 2021 came and went without a main seriesWWE 2Kvideo game, but it could all pay off ifWWE 2K22manages to live up to the hype.

While there have been multiple positive reports onWWE 2K22’s development, there has also been a report saying thatWWE’s relationship with 2K Sports is “seriously strained.“Perhaps positive reception and strong sales forWWE 2K22could turn that relationship around, but that all remains to be seen. Fans will learn much more about the game come its next big reveal event in January.
