World of Warcraftjust got in on the viral Grimace Shake meme with a hilarious picture featuring a N’Zoth-themed beverage of their own. Prominently featuring a cameo from its own purple eldritch horror,World of Warcraft’s Grimace Shake looks as delicious as it does deadly.
Recently,McDonald’s introducedthe limited-time Grimace Shake–a berry-flavored beverage celebrating the return and birthday of the eponymous purple mascot character. A viral meme exploded into existence on TikTok shortly after, featuring people trying the shake, only to smash cut to a scene of a fake murder scene, often featuring purple slush everywhere.

Now,World of Warcrafthas joined the many celebrities, content creators, andgames getting in on the Grimace Shake meme. On its official Twitter page, it shared an image of a purple shake. However, the drink is sitting on the warped landscape of Ny’alotha–the raid where the N’Zoth was fought inBattle for Azeroth. Additionally, the shake features strawberry pieces floating within it that look suspiciously like the red eyes of the Old God.
N’Zoth is one of the four known Old Gods who inhabited Azeroth, and the one thatappeared most recently in modernWorld of Warcraft. The Old Gods take heavy inspiration from Cthulhu and Lovecraft mythos and are favorite adversaries amongWorld of Warcraftfans. On the other hand, Grimace is a strange, formerly-villainous creature of indeterminate species who represents McDonald’s milkshakes. This spawned the comedic theory that he, too, was an eldritch being, leading to the meme of his signature milkshake having supernatural, deadly powers.
Needless to say, fans got a kick out of theWorld of Warcraftmeme. Few expected it to get in on the fun, and few still expected a cameo from N’Zoth himself. Many fans admitted they would eagerly drink the milkshake regardless of the risk, though some mentioned adding strawberries to the actual Grimace Shake would probably taste great. The image spawned tons of reactions, including fan art of several characters trying N’Zoth’s shake.
The Old Gods have been a prominent source of memes inWorld of Warcraftrecently as well. Despite there being many signs of their presence, many fans jokingly assure others there are “no Old Gods inDragonflight.” While the Void played a prominent role in Embers of Neltharion, and the Old Gods and their minions appear in quests including thenew Time Rifts from Fractures in Time, players will have to wait and see if they become major antagonists beforeDragonflightends.
