Pokemon Scarlet and Violetintroduce players to Paldea, a region where a great variety of Pokemon reside. Some are discovered through exploration while others can only be seen by trading or by raising Pokemon. Gholdengo is one of the most curious creatures inPokemon Scarlet and Violetfor several reasons. It sports a striking design, it has an incredibly powerful signature move, and the main way to obtain it is through a tedious evolutionary method.
Gholdengo is bright gold, and The Pokemon Company is likely to treat the creature as its golden childlike it has done with Charizard in the past. It already looks like a jolly mascot ready to be inserted into marketing, written into the anime, and slapped onto products. This isn’t necessarily a bad thing, as the Pokemon is quite likable if one can get past its strange appearance.

Gholdengo is a Special Pokemon
Scarlet and Violetintroduce many new Pokemon, and some of them stand out for several reasons. For example, Scovillain turns heads because it is the first Fire/Grass dual type, while Baxcalibur is noteworthy for being Gen 9’s pseudo-legendary. One of the Pokemon that has also gotten attention is Gholdengo, which is Pokemon number 1000 in the National Pokedex. To get it, players must collect 999 Gimmighoul Coins around Paldea, and then level up Gimmighoul, which isa Ghost-type Pokemonthat looks like an ancient treasure chest. Initial reactions to Gholdengo have been ambivalent. Some players are unhappy with Gholdengo’s design. Its golden body is made of piles of coins, and it has hair that makes it look like a palm tree.
Despite its weird looks, the Pokemon is a danger on the battlefield. It is a Steel/Ghost dual type which makes it immune to three types of moves: Normal, Fighting, and Poison. Furthermore, it has the signature ability Good as Gold which leaves it unaffected by Status moves. This is incredibly useful, asStatus moves such as Toxic, Hypnosis, and Will-O-Wisphave become staples of the competitive scene. It is also an offensive monster, as it learns the powerful signature move Make It Rain which has a base power of 120 and inflicts damage and drops the user’s Special Attack stat by one stage. Those that laugh at Gholdengo’s looks will quickly respect it after being hit with that move.

How The Pokemon Company Could Give Gholdengo Extra Attention
With its jolly disposition and striking appearance, Gholdengo looks like it was made for the spotlight. Developers certainly knew that the Pokemon would receive extra attention with it being number 1000, and they have gone out of their way to give it features that make it special. The creature will likely receive the Charizard treatment and find itself used as a franchise mascot. This could occur within the anime. After Ash Ketchum’s victory against Leon, it has been announced that the next era of the series will be departing from Ash and Pikachu to follow new protagonists. It would not be ridiculous to speculate that Gholdengo could play a big role in the anime series. Gholdengo could also find itself plastered all overPokemon TCGproducts. This has been the fate of Charizard, whose cards and products go for a premium online. Similarly, The Pokemon Company may stick the golden creature on Elite Trainer Boxes and Collector’s Tins. Cards featuring Gholdengo could also wind up being quite pricey depending on their rarity and the quality of the art.
There are plenty of creative designs in Gen 9. This includes the Nacli evolutionary line that looks straight out ofMinecraft, theVaroom line that resembles car engines, and Palafin, a Pokemon that transforms into a superhero. Gholdengo is another example of great design inScarlet and Violet, and it helps that the creature is competitively viable too.
