In an unfortunate turn of events, a professionalValorantteam had to forfeit their match because their player got distracted byHonkai: Star Rail. The latest game from HoYoverse has only been out for a week, but fans have already clocked in many hours to complete the story. It seems like the aforementionedValorantpro had the same idea during their tournament day.BeforeHonkai: Star Railwas officially released on April 26, the game already garnered massive popularity as itreached over 10 million pre-registrationsand surpassedGenshin Impact’s opening-day downloads. Just like other HoYoverse titles,Star Railis an action-adventure with a gacha system where one can pull various playable characters. But there’s a downside to this as players can get addicted to the grind, especially when they want to acquire enoughStar Rail Passesto do gacha pulls, and forget about their real-life duties. This was exactly what happened to aValorantplayer from Taiwan-based org Ghost CommandoS, who reportedly lost track of time because they were playingStar Rail, so they weren’t able to install the ValorantChampions Tour (VCT) client in time for their match against S2 Esports. Ghost CommandoS was then forced to forfeit the match, giving S2 Esports the winning point.
Over on Twitter, many users found the situation hilarious, while also saying that they couldn’t blame the player for getting sucked intoHonkai: Star Rail. Some joked that the player was probably busy “simping” on the game’s characters, while also tweeting out GIFs ofHimekoand Kafka. Meanwhile, one questioned why the player needed to install the VCT client on their PC again during the regular season. AValorantproplayer answered that Riot Games uses three different clients, which might explain why the Ghost CommandoS player had to reinstall it.
The good news is that Ghost CommandoS was able to play one more match after the forfeit incident. The bad news is that the team lost and placed eighth in theValorantChallengers League in Taiwan and Hong Kong, while S2 Esports already reached top five. So, the moral lesson here is to not get too distracted with games likeHonkai: Star Railon important tournament days.
