The largest streaming platform,Twitch, has suffered one of its biggest viewership drops in years this November. This is the first time Twitch has had a drop this significant since its lowest ever drop in September 2020.

Twitchhas been at the forefront of streaming and live broadcasting on the internet for a while now. With a way for people to watch their favorite content creators live and feel more connected to them through it, Twitch has become the main streaming platform for fans and their streamers. Furthermore, Twitch has also cemented its way into the gaming space by being the go-to spot to watch the latest tournament events forCS:GO,League of Legends, or any game with a big competitive scene. Twitch’s rise to be the main live-streaming platform for content creators, gamers, and esports events has been impressive.

It is worth noting, however, that Twitch typically experiences a drop in viewership in November. Last year in November, for example, Twitch saw a drop in viewership of 10.3%, the same as this year. On Twitch, however, viewership was higher in November 2021 than in November 2022. While both saw the same amount of viewership drop off, November 2021 had more content watched, with 1.81 billion hours of watch time. This is also whenTwitch saw an increase in viewership of 45%.

Now the loss in viewership follows a normal pattern for Twitch. However, many consumers have been worried about the state of Twitch and the loss of viewership. But with the loss in viewership in mind, it makes complete sense that the viewership numbers are lower when compared to 2021 figures, and that’s simply due to COVID. The pandemic forced people to stay at home, and with many countries having completely different restrictions, the numbers that Twitch saw during the pandemic may never even be seen again on Twitch, simply due to the fact that people can now go back to living a normal life. COVID still has its effect on the world with events and such, like whenE3 was only online due to COVID; however, some normality has returned.
