When thinking aboutThe Last of Us 2, its harrowing story and top-notch performances are likely the first things that come to mind. Gameplay will probably follow, with the open exploration near the start of Ellie’s story being a big highlight, as was the set piece featuring theRat King. However, the setting of the game deserves a lot of appreciation as well, as Naughty Dog crafted a memorable world to explore - and one that could inspire numerous multiplayer areas in the upcoming spin-off.

Though it is currently unclear how the upcomingThe Last of Usmultiplayer game is going to play, many are hoping it offers something like Factions from the very first game in the series. If it does,The Last of Us 2would be a great source of inspiration for multiplayer maps, as it offers a number of standout areas that could be perfectly transitioned into PvP experiences.

Maps Based on The Seraphite and WLF Bases

First and foremost, maps that are built around the two main factions ofThe Last of Us 2would be terrific. This is because boththe Seraphites and WLFhave unforgettable bases, both of which have unique architecture that would be fun to fight around in a multiplayer map. Starting with the Seraphites, the island players assault near the end of Abby’s story has some makeshift wooden buildings that stand out from any other area in the game, which could result in a good visual change whenever the map appears. As for the WLF, battling through a Stadium is hard to pass up on, and having access to the stands as well as the field could lead to some interesting strategies and verticality.

Maps Important To Ellie and Abby’s Narratives

During their respective stories, Abby and Ellie visit a few areas that mean a great deal to them, and they would all make for solid multiplayer arenas. For Abby, the Aquarium that became a getaway spot for her and Owen would make for a visually appealing multiplayer map. For Ellie, the museum that served as herbirthday gift from Joelwould make a good arena, with gamers battling around fossils and space equipment. The theater where they first fought would be another memorable play space, especially if players could fight on the top and bottom levels like they do during the boss battle. Sneaking around mannequins would surely lead to some tense encounters, as players could occasionally be fooled by the static props of the arena, shooting at them and giving away their position.

Other The Last of Us 2 Locations That Would Make Good Multiplayer Maps

Santa Barbara, the beach area that was explored for a few hours atthe end ofThe Last of Us 2, could be another good place to pull maps from. The houses players explore in the area would be a start, as another map like Suburbs fromThe Last of UsFactions would surely be received well. The Rattlers’ base would be another good choice, and perhaps Naughty Dog could even sneak in some much-needed lore for the group if it appeared.

Two more locations that would be interesting are the TV station and the infected tower. The former is encountered whenEllie is hunting for Noraand is essentially a multiplayer map in its current form, as it would need very little changes to be turned into a PvP arena. As for the infected tower, having an arena where players need to find gas masks to stay alive and are surrounded by spores could provide interesting gameplay and distinct visuals.
