Following a leak of massive proportions detailing a ton of story elements inThe Last of Us 2, the game has finally gone gold and will be ready to ship out to fans shortly.In response to the leaks, director Neil Druckmann once again reassures players that nothing compares to the experience of actually playing the game.
The Last of Us 2leaks have caused major controversy, with many decrying the game as terrible based solely on what they’ve read online about it. Without getting into spoiler territory, there are those that feel the political agenda of the game is all too present.

For those unfamiliar with the term, a game “going gold” means that it is fully completed, and is ready to be put on discs and prepped for a digital release. At this point, all Naughty Dog has to do is wait for the game toofficially release on June 19th.
The main point that Naughty Dog has attempted to drive home to fans of the originalThe Last of Usgame is that the leaks, although accurate, only paint a small portion of the picture, and were clearly framed in a way that was intended to make Naughty Dog and its game look worse. Unfortunately, Druckmann and his company are in a strange position, as they can’t fully rectify thedamage caused by the leakwithout explaining in further detail and spoiling yet more of the game.
Druckmann and his team are extremely proud of the game they’ve created and want nothing more than for fans to give it a chance rather than allowing the leak to taint their perception of it so heavily. Of course, all of this comes amidst a storm of controversy regarding the studio’s potentiallyharmful crunch cultureand the cost of making such an ambitious game asThe Last of Us2, leaving many fans uncertain of what was once assumed to be a surefire hit.
As it stands, it is still far too early to make an accurate judgement call onThe Last of Us 2and whether or not its political agenda gets in the way of theemotional storytelling that fans of the first game have come to love. The best course of action would be for each fan to simply play the game for themselves and formulate their own opinions rather than deciding before even trying it out.
The Last of Us 2will be available on June 19th exclusively for PS4.
