Summary
While some players may have lost a bit of interest in theFar Cryseries, it is still one of the biggest franchises that Ubisoft offers. The sandbox gameplay has enthralled fans for years, and the stories have not been half-bad either. AlthoughFar Cry 6may have left much to be desired, there does not seem to be any plans to slow down this decade-old series.
Not only are there plenty ofFar Crytitles coming in the future, but Ubisoft has also begun taking the concept to brand-new locales. BothFar Cry PrimalandNew Dawnshowed audiences that the formula works well outside the standard setting, whileAvatar: Frontiers of Pandorafelt like aFar Crygame in all but name. Even though it may not be as popular as the films it is based on, it still seems to work well, which is why Ubisoft should consider taking the concept to even more pre-established sci-fi franchises likePlanet of the Apes.

A Planet of the Apes Far Cry Game Has a Ton of Potential
Ubisoft Has Shown Sci-Fi Works With Far Cry
Whilethe mainFar Cryfranchiseseems to be centered on bringing players to hostile parts of the real world, the series has also dabbled in exploring some out-of-this-world concepts. The first major title to take the concept to new heights wasFar Cry 3: Blood Dragon, which brought theFar Cryformula to a retro-futuristic locale that players seemed to fall in love with. And because of that, plenty more unique spin-offs have been released since.
In 2016, Ubisoft took theconcept to the Stone Age withFar Cry Primal, which seemed to work pretty well. Three years later, the studio brought it to the apocalypse withFar Cry New Dawn, and although reception was pretty mixed, it also still worked decently well. Along with that, Ubisoft has also explored more outlandish elements like zombies through DLC packs.
This year, Ubisoft seems to havetaken the concept even further withAvatar: Frontiers of Pandora. While it may not be aFar Crygame, almost everything about it feels like one. The game thrusts players into a sci-fi world that they must fight their way through via a first-person view and features practically everything one would expect from aFar Cryspin-off. Even though it has not been a massive hit, now that Ubisoft has brought this formula to a pre-established IP, it should really explore another one.
There Has Never Been a Better Time for a Planet of the Apes Game
Avatar: Frontiers of Pandorashowed thattheFar Cryformulacan work within the confines of a popular IP. Even though the story was not that great, the gameplay still had that classic Ubisoft charm. Along with that,Far Cry Primalshowed audiences that the concept can also work in a period with limited resources. So, Ubisoft just needs to combine the two concepts to make a fantasticPlanet of the Apestitle.
WhilePlanet of the Apesmay not be as popular asAvatar, it is still a massive sci-fi franchise that is filled with stories waiting to be told. Not only has the newest trilogy been a huge hit, but the franchise has been exciting fans since 1968. On top of that, a brand-new film is set to release next year, which makes it the perfect time toexplore thePlanet of the Apesmythosin a video game.
APlanet of the ApesFar Crygame could be relatively simple but a lot of fun. Players could take control of a brand-new ape, learn how to survive in a vast apocalyptic world and be thrust into a conflict for their very survival. They would battle apes, humans, and all sorts of animals that seek to do them harm. TheFar Cryseries has already shown how to make something similar, so Ubisoft just needs to take it to the next level.
