Bethesda Softworks has releasedSkyrimon several platforms over the years, and each launch has been accompanied by bugs and glitches that have become familiar to fans of the developer. OneSkyrimplayer recently happened across their horse resting in a peculiar location as it teeters on a ledge.
Reddit user Kel6y posted a clip of their exploration of the world ofSkyrimin which they appear to be trying to enter the Mage College of Winterhold, which is located on the Northeastern coast of Skyrim. Instead of leaving theDark Brotherhoodhorse Shadowmere near the base of the stairs up to the College of Winterhold, the player seemingly led the horse through the narrow path until it wouldn’t continue anymore. This causes the dark horse to act strangely once the player dismounts as the video shows it practically standing on its rear legs while the front ones rest on the waist-high stone wall.

Kel6y’s clip begins with Shadowmere already in the middle of the path to the College of Winterhold as it stands on two feet and kicks the other two into some snow atop a nearby wall. The black horse then shakes its mane of snow which continues to fall from the sky like in most northern locations inSkyrim, such asDawnstaror Windhelm. Kel6y’s video ends with Shadowmere looking at the Dragonborn before blinking its red eyes slowly, glaring at the player for a brief moment as if unimpressed by their actions.
There are multiple guilds featured in each title inThe Elder Scrollsfranchise, and that’s no different withSkyrim, with all of them offering their own unique rewards. Shadowmere can be acquired through completing quests for theSkyrimassassination guild known as the Dark Brotherhood until a member of the guild rewards the player with the powerful horse. The dark horse’s major health pool is one of the primary draws to acquiring the steed beyond its visual appearance, and the animal also helps players in combat.
SomeSkyrimfans have pointed out that Shadowmere seems to be protesting the Dragonborn’s demands in the video as it protests by stopping and blocking the path forward. Others have suggested that Shadowmere isn’t interested in the Mage college, given its lack of magic-wielding and association with the Dark Brotherhood. Although Kel6y’s clip ends before the horse can move out of the way, the Skyrim player likely had to mount and move it in order to proceed towards theCollege of Winterhold.
Skyrimis available now for Nintendo Switch, PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
