Some of the more recentStar Warstelevision shows released on Disney+ have received middling reviews, such asThe Mandalorianseason 3 andThe Book of Boba Fett. However, one series that was almost universally well received wasAndor, the prequel telling the tale of how Diego Luna’s character fromRogue Onebecame a Rebel hero. Season One ofAndorhad twelve episodes, more than the rest of theStar Warsshows on the streaming service. Yet it utilized each outing to tell a complete story set between Episodes III and IV. It might not have had the fan service, Easter eggs, and cameos that some of the others shows do, but the story and the way in which it was told clearly resonated with audiences.
Interestingly, Cassian Andor wasn’t even a member of the Rebellion until the ending of the finale. But now that he is, all eyes are now on Season Two, which promises to ramp up the conflict between the Rebels and Empire and move the show closer to the events of the first spin-off film and the original trilogy. Regarding Season Two in particular, some filming locations where the cast and crew ofAndorhave been shooting give fans some interesting clues as to where the story will be headed. Possibilities include the probable return of a popular character in the franchise, as well as a heavily occupied Imperial planet.

Season One left all the pieces of the story on the table, setting up the second outing, which promises to have more conflict, action, and Rebels. Cassian went from a common criminal to a reluctant Rebel before finally realizing that he wants to join the cause, hence why he told Luthen Rael that he would have to kill him or let him join the Rebellion. Other members of the Rebellion include Mon Mothma and Saw Gerrera, who each have their own different facets of the cause. At this point in canon, there is no organized Rebel Alliance, but that is set to come in the second season.

One key filming location for the second season thus far has been at Winspit Quarry in Dorset in southern England. That might not mean much to an average viewer, but eagle-eyed fans will know that Winspit Quarryis the filming location of Saw Gerrera’sscenes in the first season. This location was redressed in order to make it appear like a run-down, covert Rebel operation in which the leader, Saw Gerrera, is hiding out. There are caves in order to keep Gerrera hidden, as well as a neatly designed fortress, using the terrain to fight off potential enemies.
Weather forecasts have impacted the filming in Dorset during the course of the shoot thus far, but because the crew are returning here, this does hint that Saw Gerrera will certainly be back in Season Two. As the events ofRogue Onedraw closer, it seems probable that Saw will have a bigger role in the new season, particularly as he was only in a few scenes of Season One.
Another Season Two filming location is a set built and used in Valencia, Spain. Diego Luna, Genevieve O’Reilly, and Stellen Skarsgaard were all present during the filming of these scenes, showing that the Rebellion will indeed be united at some point in the second season. Stormtroopers were also on the set, so there appears to be a standoff of sorts between theRebels and the Imperials. More broadly, it looks like the location in Valencia is being dressed up as a heavily Imperial occupied world that also has a tropical feel to it. This appears to be similar to the planet Niamos in Season One, which was an Empire planet full of Imperial troops that also had a beach vibe. Diego Luna’s Andor character has often been seen in these sorts of locations, from Scarif to Niamos and now this new planet.
No release date has been announced yet for the second season of Andor, but creator Tony Gilroy has given some hints about the story ahead. The second season is confirmed to be the final outing in the series, and Gilroy said that the final scene of the show will be the moments just before fans first seeCassian inRogue One.
Andorappears to be cleverly avoiding the mistakes of so many other beloved series in the past that have overstayed their welcome. Although some fans might be disappointed with just two seasons, the shorter length does help guarantee a higher level of quality.AndorSeason Two is still estimated to release in the second half of 2024, presumably after the release ofAhsoka, Skeleton Crew, andThe Acolyte.
