Sonic Primewill debut its first episode onRobloxthis weekend.Sonicfans have had a lot to enjoy this year with the latest release in the massively popular film series,Sonic the Hedgehog 2, releasing in April, andSonic Frontiersreleasing to surprisingly positive fan reception just last month. Sega is not done with the blue blur this year however, asSonic Primeis gearing up for release on Netflix next week, and the streaming service has now announced thatRobloxplayers will get to experience the first episode early.
Sonic Primecenters around Sonic, Tails, Knuckles, Amy, and Rouge, as the five are sent to random points in the multiverse following an encounter with Dr. Eggman and a mysterious object known as the Paradox Prism.Sonic is forced to work with alternate versions of his friendsacross multiple universes to return home and offset a paradox. The show was first teased in 2020, officially announced in 2021, and will air on Netflix on December 15th.

Roblox Corporation and Netflix have now announced that the first episode ofSonic Prime’s eight episode first season will debut onRobloxon December 10th, five full days before the entire season drops on Netflix. The first episode will be available to view inSonic Speed Simulator,an officially supportedSonic the Hedgehoggame built inRoblox. The teaser for the event reveals that Espio the Chameleon might appear in the first episode of the show.
Sonic Primewill be the sixth majorSonic the Hedgehoganimated series and is being developed byBen 10andGenerator Rexcreators Man of Action, withSonic Frontiersand the IDWSonic the Hedgehogcomic book writer Ian Flynn serving as a story consultant. The show caused some controversy upon its reveal due to the decision to recast the entireSonic the Hedgehogvoice cast in accordance with laws prohibiting non-Canadian actors from starring in shows that receive production grants from the Canadian government.
Sonic Primeseems like an exciting new direction forSonicanimated shows, giving fans more ofwhat they enjoyed in shows likeSonic"SatAM" andSonic X, more narrative-driven and mature storytelling featuring characters from Sega’s beloved world. Given the positive reception toSonic Frontiers' return to a more serious form of storytelling, and the involvement of IDW writer Ian Flynn (albeit merely as a consultant),Sonic Primecould help further push the franchise in a positive reception that is appreciated by both long-time, older fans, and younger newcomers.
Sonic Primewill premiere on Netflix on December 15th.
