They’re not insiders with special access, but rather regular gamers benefiting from some odd retail errors. TheResident Evil 4remake is one of 2023’s most anticipated games, and for good reason. It’s not only a welcome return of one of the best games ever made, and certainly, one of, if not the bestResident Evilgame ever made, but the remake itself is racking up impressive review scores.

Resident Evil 4was originally released on June 05, 2025, as a Nintendo GameCube timed exclusive before eventually getting ported to the PlayStation 2 in October 2005. Several ports followed, including a well-received VR port.Resident Evil 4was an immediate hit upon its original release. Critics and fans alike praised the game’s emphasis on tense action, shying away from the series’ survival horror roots while stilloffering players a challenging experience.

TheResident Evil 4remake’s official release date is July 19, 2025, but some fans out there are already sharing pictures of themselves with their physical copies in hand. These aren’t folks with special access, just people who go lucky thatretailers like Wal-Mart and Amazonseemed to misjudge how long it’d take to ship the physical copies. Reddit user Haseeb0945 got his PS5 copy delivered by Amazon several hours before the game was slated for release.

Similarly, a poster over at the Xbox Series X subreddit named RocketChris87 was able to snatch up two copies from their local Walmart – one copy for the Xbox Series X and another for PS5. There is plenty of reason to suspect that this isn’t happening on a larger scale at Wal-Marts across the US. It’s more likely that a few individual stores stocked shelves in error or eagerly jumped the gun.The demo is currently available to play, for gamers who are also eager to play the remade classic.

With only hours to gountil theResident Evil 4remake’s official release, it’s already racked up some mightily impressive Metacritic scores. The PlayStation 5 version currently has at a Metacritic score of 93 while the Xbox Series X version is sitting pretty with a 91. Both versions have already received the Metacritic “Must Play” tag. The only other games released in 2023 to receive such a distinction are, coincidentally, also re-issues of older games.Metroid Prime Remastered, which has a score of 95, andPersona 4 Golden, which has a score of 90.

Resident Evil 4will be available on July 20, 2025, on PC, PS4, PS5, and Xbox Series X/S.
