ASkyrimfan has shown off their modded game, with combat that resemblesDark Souls. Mods are extremely popular withSkyrimplayers, including ones that change up the base game’s fighting system, which is beginning to show its age.
Mods are an enormous part of the reasonSkyrimhas had such longevity, remaining incredibly popular ever since its 2011 release. Players are able to change the game however they see fit, molding the gameplay into their ideal RPG experience. Taking a more wacky approach, someSkyrimplayers add Thomas the Tank Engineto their game, whereas some will only use mods that are completely lore-friendly as if they were an expansion to the base experience.

The video posted by Redditor movefastdontbeslow is incredible and makesSkyrimlook like it could have been released in 2023. In the clip, the player fights an ogre and rolls away from its attacks with perfect timing. The player can also be seen executing a timed block, giving the combat another layer of complexity that helps it resemble theDark Soulsgames. While the mods used only show off the revamped melee mechanics, there are plenty of alternatives that give focus to other areas of the combat triangle. One recently releasedSkyrimmod created a full overhaul to ranged fighting, and there are plenty of mods available for the magic side of things, too.
In the comments, the user gave fans an idea of the mods that were used to create thisDark Souls-esque gameplay. The main mod is the DMCO dodge framework, which adds the timed dodge system. The framework is then supported by the Infinity Dodge Animations mod, as well as the MCO ER Spear Animation mod. The user also posted their full mod list in the thread, which includes over 900 mods in total and shows how mods can work in harmony to create a great overall package. Every player will have their own approach to modding, with some focused on adding as much content as possible, while others will just add thebestSkyrimmods.
WithSkyrimshowing its age and the limitations of the older game engine restricting the full potential of modders, a sequel is long overdue. WhileThe Elder Scrolls 6was first announced in 2018, Bethesda has been quiet on the subject ever since. WhenStarfieldreleases in 2023, it is expected that production will ramp up further on their nextElder Scrollstitle. With expectations high, fans have their own ideas for what the game should be, and speculation is rife. One theory even suggests thatThe Elder Scrolls 6could do away with a main narrative campaign, and hopefully fans won’t have to wait much longer to find out more details about the next game.
The Elder Scrolls 5: Skyrimis available for PC, PS4, PS5, Switch, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
