The sequel is shaping up to be one of the MCU’s most hyped films, particularly due to Raimi’s involvement and the growing speculation aboutElizabeth Olsen’s Wanda Maximoffbeing the main villain ofDoctor Strange 2. Speaking to Fandango, Raimi touched on who the possible villains may be. “Well, there’s iterations of our characters throughout the multiverse. So, if I were to say Strange … I’m not really supposed to answer this question, but I might be saying altered Strange,” Raimi said. “Same with Wanda and Mordo. But I would say, at different times, all of the above.” While different versions of Strange have already been teased, like the villainous Strange Supreme, it would make sense to see Olsen’s character become the big bad.
Whether it is her desperate search for her kids Billy and Tommy, who were both introduced inWandaVision, or her expressing frustration for the double standard placed on her and Strange’s actions (as briefly hinted at in the trailer), it wouldn’t be surprising to see her character cause multiversal madness. But on the other hand, the sequel will still explore characters like Mordo, who tapped into his evil roots and started a mission to lower the amount of sorcerers at the end of the first film. Whatever turns out to be the case, it will likely result in one thrilling and dangerous fight for our heroes.
On top of the exciting villains that await,Doctor Strange 2is rumored to feature plenty of exciting cameos ranging from Ryan Reynolds' Deadpool to the MCU’s version of the X-Men and the Fantastic Four. But fans will just have to wait and see what really plays out in the film’s 126-minute runtime. The sequel also starsXochitl Gomez as America Chavez, Benedict Wong as Wong, and Rachel McAdams as Christine Palmer.Lokihead writer Michael Waldron, who was praised for his work on the Marvel Studios series, was hired to rewrite the script along with newcomer Jade Bartlett.
Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madnesswill arrive in theaters on August 09, 2025.
