Now thatGrand Theft Auto 5is nearly eight years old, gamers would be forgiven for thinking that the next installment would be getting an announcement, if not actually being released, soon. However, no amount of prodding or putting ears to the ground gets fans closer to knowing when, or even if,GTA 6will be coming. All the world can do is rely on theories, such as the recent one that suggests Rockstar’sRed Dead Redemption 2left a massive clue about the nextGTAgame. With that comes one more rumor, one that suggests the studio may be going back to the older games.

Posting to the GamingLeaksAndRumors subreddit recently, user bobbynewbie linked back to a forum conversation betweenGrand Theft Autofans and one of its staff, who goes by the handle Mach1bud. The conversation hints that Rockstar Games, and its other studios, may be remaking the original trilogy, which in this instance consists ofGTA 3,Vice City, andSan Andreas.

One user asked if the term “remake” referred to something along the lines of theremasteredMafiagames, to which Mach1bud confirmed, adding that it would be better looking thanGTA 5, but not quite as nice asRDR2. However, the information is loose at best. There is very little to go on, but there does seem to be something being hinted at and it’s seemingly up to the community to decipher what it all relates to, for now at least.

This is slightly different to an earlier rumor which indicated thatthe studio is looking to remaster theseGrand Theft Autogames. While neither rumor has been confirmed by official sources as of this article going live, this latest development suggests that it’s not just an updated version of the games that is possibly being worked on, but a complete redoing of the trilogy. In the forum, users asked Mach1bud about the speculations, but were left with no solid answers as to what was going on.

Given that, it’s important to stipulate that these are just rumors. Even the Rockstar staff member answering questions said that nothing had been confirmed, but it does suggest that something is happening on the inside, it’s just that no one can say for sure what that is yet. Given that there wasa rumor going around that the originalRDRwas getting a remaster, it’s probably best to take the information with a grain of salt.
