Capcom has confirmed thatResident Evil 4’s day one update will fix a major issue with the game ahead of its release. Last June, Capcom revealed its upcoming remake ofResident Evil 4, one of the most beloved games of all time. While many were skeptical about the studio’s intention to remake the iconic action-horror game, that skepticism has turned to anticipation with every new trailer and gameplay preview. One point of contention has been the game’s rain visual effects, which have been heavily criticized before the game’s launch. Capcom has now confirmed that this effect will be fixed before the game’s launch.

Resident Evil 4first released on the Nintendo GameCube in January 2005 as an exclusive for the platform alongside other Capcom releases such asViewtiful JoeandKiller7. The game has since gone on to release on multiple platforms including PS2, Wii, PS4, Xbox One, and even Oculus Quest 2.Resident Evil 4is considered to be one of the best horror games of all time, popularizing the over-the-shoulder third-person perspective that many shooters and horror games use today. Following the success of itsResident Evil 2andResident Evil 3remakes, Capcom announced that it will be remaking the game in June 2022 during a PlayStation State of Play showcase.

While many fans havebeen eagerly anticipating theResident Evil 4remake, with every new look at the game revealing its intention to honor the original game while also introducing new mechanics to the series, a gameplay video published by Game Informer last month raised some discussion surrounding the game’s implementation of its rain effect, which many claimed looked rather unflattering. Speaking to Press Start during a preview event, Capcom confirmed that it will be adjusting the game’s rain visuals in a day one patch forResident Evil 4.

This is a relief as concerns surroundingResident Evil 4’s noisy rain effects began to grow more approaching the game’s release later this month. The effect was compared to the intrusive implementation ofrain in Rockstar’s original release ofGrand Theft Auto: The Trilogy - The Definitive Edition, which many claimed made the games almost unplayable at launch with how much it cluttered the screen during gameplay. Due to this being part of the game’s day one update, some players, such as reviewers for the game, will likely still experience this effect during gameplay, however the majority of players will be able to enjoy the game without any obnoxious rain making it hard to defeat Ganados.

This is another example of Capcom’s drive for quality with it modern AAA output, and its attention to fans' criticisms of its work both before and after launch. Here’s hoping this is justa sign of the level of polish that theResident Evil 4remake will be displayingwhen it releases.

Resident Evil 4will release on March 24 for PC, PS4, PS5, and Xbox Series X/S.
