The remake ofResident Evil 4continues the trend of modernizing the classic games in Capcom’s iconic survival horror series, but a recent video shows how the game would look with more retro-style fixed camera angles. Beginning life in 1996, the world has seen manyvideo game releases with theResident Evilnameover the past 27 years. Such success does not seem to have been hindered by some weaker releases, with the franchise currently in the best shape it’s been in for a while.
RE4is just one more example of how the studio is continuing to keep its IP in good standing, with this reimagining being a contemporary take on the original 2005 release, which is so far going down well with fans and critics alike. Of course, the modding community was quick to act as soon as the remake came out. For those who want a change from the vanilla experience, there are plenty ofmods for the remake ofResident Evil 4, with more coming out all the time.

One that could be realized at some point comes from the YouTube channel Cycu1, as spotted by DSO Gaming. A recent video shows footage from the new version ofResident Evil 4, only it’s not from the over-the-shoulder perspective the remakes are typically known for. Instead, it shows the game with fixed camera angles, an obvious throwback to the classic installments in the long-running series. It should be noted that this is not representative of a mod that Cycu1 is creating for release. They say in the video’s description that this is just a concept they’ve made but that they “hope someone will create such a mod in the future.” For now, it’s a nice little nod to theREdays of yore.
While the remakes have that over-the-shoulder look and the seventh and eight entries in the series are in first-person, older gamers will remember whenResident Evilused to have fixed cameras, which was standard back in the early days of the survival horror genre. Some may even argue that it actually makes games scarier, as it’s not easy to see what’s around the corner.
While it retains a lot of what made the 2005 release so iconic, theremake ofResident Evil 4did introduce some changeswhile also dropping things from the original. There’s no telling what the future holds for Capcom’s legendary franchise, but given the success of the more modern releases,Resident Evil’s future remains bright.
Resident Evil 4is out now for PC, PS4, PS5, and Xbox Series X/S.
