Due to the success ofRed Dead Redemption 2and Rockstar Games in general,Red Dead 3seems to be a matter of when, not if. Rockstar has a reputation for releasing big games years apart, and that meansRDR3may not even be a twinkle in anyone’s eyes yet.Grand Theft Auto 6, for example, is still years away, and it would stand to reasonRed Dead 3wouldn’t come until after it.
That hasn’t stopped players from discussing what they’d want out of a new game. The rich storyline and setting opens the door for a ton of possibilities, while a ton ofRed Dead Redemption 2charactersare deserving of their own game. Sequel or prequel forRed Dead 3,with Jack Marston, Sadie Adler, or even Arthur Morgan as protagonists, are all things that have been tossed around. One recent discussion, however, is perhaps more interesting than others.

Redditor Theyeet7 made an thought-provoking post on the game’s subreddit, simply calling for a prequel with Hosea as the protagonist. There’s a few questions that fit around a potentialRed Dead 3: will it be a sequel to the original, where players take on the role of Jack Marston as WWI happens? Many feel that the time frame is too limiting, and so to many, yet another RedDead Redemptionprequel makes sense. In that case, many have called for another game with Arthur Morgan orSadie Adler as theRed Deadprotagonist, meaning Hosea is a bit of an oddball.
However, that oddity lead to some serious discussions about how aRed Deadgame would work with Hosea. It would seem that many would like it to end before the Blackwater Massacre, so that event maintains its mysterious allure. Others want it to go back even further to a young Hosea, perhaps detailing the events around meeting Dutch, Arthur, and John. It’s doubtful to go further back than that due to a variety of limitations, but Hosea’s role in theDutch van der Linde gangis actually ripe for exploration.
What’s interesting is how well this set-up would work with the game’s typical transitions. In the first game, players go from the playing John Marston to Jack Marston. InRed Dead Redemption 2, players go from Arthur to John. In a third game featuring Hosea, although he couldn’t die, it would make sense to pass the baton on to Arthur yet again.
Either way,Red Dead Redemption 3is so far away that Rockstar probably doesn’t know what it is, and more general Rockstar fans will likely be busier speculating about and digging forGTA 6details thanRDR3. This givesRed Deadfans plenty of time to speculate about what could appear next.
Red Dead Redemption 2is available now for PC, PS4, Stadia, and Xbox One.
