NBC’sQuantum Leapreboot is officially getting a second season, with the confirmation coming just halfway through the series' inaugural batch of episodes. After some pretty satisfactory ratings for the revival, it looks as though the risk of bringing back such a beloved classic show has paid off, at least in the short term.

The news comes asQuantum Leaphas becomestreaming service Peacock’s most successful drama series debut, even proving itself as a heavy hitter regarding broadcast television. Sitting at #2 among the 18-49 demographic, it’s pretty clear that this reimagining has captured its audience. But whether it will ultimately prove to be a worthy successor to the hit ’90s sci-fi series has yet to be seen.

NBC announced the news, but the real gem followed shortly after when the cast ofQuantum Leaptook toNBC’s Instagram page to celebrate the news. Series lead Raymond Lee kicked off the reaction with a slightly NSFW exclamation, which was repeated in hilariously over-the-top fashion by co-stars Caitlin Bassett, Mason Alexander Park, Nanrisa Lee, and Ernie Hudson. If nothing else, it looks like the cast is having a good time with the show.

The official statement from the network regarding the renewal gives the new series even more of a chance tocapture the magic of the originalQuantum Leap. “We’re leaping into a second season thanks to the incredible work by our cast, producers, writers and everyone who has played a role in giving this iconic NBC series a new life,” said Lisa Katz, President of Scripted Content at NBCUniversal Television. “As we continue to bring audiences to our must-watch dramas, it’s gratifying to knowQuantum Leapwill have a prominent place next season both on our NBC schedule and next day on Peacock.”

The newQuantum Leapreboot picks things up 30 years after the original show’s hero Dr. Sam Beckett (Scott Bakula) vanished during his own trek into the titular Quantum Leap accelerator. Just likethe classic sci-fi series, the episodic format of the reboot involves the protagonist “leaping” into the bodies of various people throughout time and trying to fix their problems before moving along to the next one in hopes of, eventually, finally returning home. While Bakula isn’t currently involved in the series, the door has been left open for a possible appearance.

This news is sure to delight fans of the newQuantum Leap, while those who enjoyed the classic one might like the opportunity to return to the world that captivated them all those years ago. Here’s hoping it continues its successful run.

Quantum Leapwill return to NBC and Peacock for the second half of its first season on January 2nd, 2023.
