One of the most anticipated PS5 console exclusives isForspoken, not only because it is a new IP from Square Enix, one of the most beloved publishers in the entire industry, but because it is the first new title from Luminous Productions sinceFinal Fantasy 15. While it’s been over half a year now since the project was last revealed, it seems that the wait is coming to an end soon as the game’s lead actress has implied thatForspokencould be appearing at this week’s PlayStation Showcase.

Forspokenwas first announced at Sony’s Future of Gaming event in June 2020, where it was revealed under the working title ofProject Athia. The game was revealed to be a console exclusive for PlayStation 5, with a PC release also planned for the game’s launch, and that it is being developed by Luminous Productions, the team behindFinal Fantasy 15, with the Luminous Engine, which has not been seen since that game’s release in 2016. It last appeared at the Square Enix Presents event in March of this year, where it was revealed that Ella Balinska would be portraying Frey, the game’s protagonist, and that itwould be officially titledForspoken.

Since then, Square Enix has been silent regarding the game, with itnot even appearing at the E3 2021 Square Enix Presents event. Now, with PlayStation’s next major event on the horizon, it appears that fans will see more ofForspokenvery soon, with Balinska teasing on Instagram “Forspokencontent pending…” While this isn’t outright confirmation that the game will appear at the PlayStation event, it seems hard to imagine it will not be present given that the game will be a PlayStation 5 console exclusive for two years and is coming from a publisher as big as Square Enix.

There’s more than enough reason to be excited forForspokenalready, given that it’s coming fromLuminous Productions, an exciting and relatively new studio within Square Enix. Not only that, it will be utilizing the Luminous Engine, a tool that’s yet to reach its maxiumim potential on consoles, especially given the upgrades it has received in the five years sinceFinal Fantasy 15’s release.

On top of this, the game promises to have an incredibly ambitious story, which is being penned byRogue One: A Star Wars Storyco-writer Gary Whitta. The team has also promised todeliver the “best looking open world action game ever” withForspoken, which at one point was rumored to release in January 2022, however this doesn’t seem quite as likely anymore. It is possible that we will see a release date revealed later this week.

Forspokenis currently in development for PC and PS5.
