The PlayStation Future of Gaming showcase in 2020 gave fans their first looks at next-generation gaming. A wide variety of games were shown off during the presentation, but one that caught the attention of many fans wasStray, a visually-impressive PlayStation console exclusive where players take on the role of a cat.Straywas missing from the latest PlayStation State of Play event, leading some fans to worry that the game would miss its planned 2022 release date, but it seems those concerns were unwarranted.

Straypublisher Annapurna Interactivewas apparently getting messages aboutStrayand the State of Play, and so it provided an update to fans by saying that the game is still set to come out in 2022. A more specific release date forStrayremains unavailable at the time of this writing, but if it truly is aiming for release in 2022, then hopefully fans don’t have to wait all that much longer to learn exactly when they’ll finally get to play it for themselves.

The last time fans got an extensive look atStraywas the Annapurna Interactive Showcase, which was held as part of the Summer Game Fest event last year. It was then when Annapurna Interactive showed off newStraygameplay footage, reaffirming that the game is going to be a visual stunner whenever it does finally release.

As forStraybeing absent from the latest PlayStation State of Play event, fans shouldn’t necessarily be surprised. After all, thelatest PlayStation State of Play eventwas focused primarily on games from Japanese publishers, featuring multiple titles from Square Enix and a new co-op dinosaur game that’s in development at Capcom.Strayis developed by a French development team called BlueTwelve Studio, so it wouldn’t have fit the theme of the State of Play.

Stray’s unique premisehas clearly caught the attention of gamers, though, and judging by how fans wanted to see the game at the State of Play, it seems many are anxious to see more of it in action.Strayhas looked impressive since its initial reveal, and it seems like it has a lot of potential to be one of more interesting new IP released all year. Whether or not it lives up to the hype remains to be seen, but assumingStraymeets its planned 2022 release date, then fans should be finding out for themselves sooner rather than later.
