While the likes ofResident Evil Villagehave shown that there is a lot of life left in the series, the recent remakes have also proved to be popular, with the 2019 and 2020 releases being well-received modern reimaginings of their respective source material. It’s no secret that Capcom’s franchise isone of the most influential in the horror genre, inspiriting many other games since the mid-90s, and while the remake ofResident Evil 3is not as highly praised as its predecessor, many are still waiting for a current-gen upgrade.
That could be sooner than expected. As spotted by Push Square, a photo uploaded to Twitter by user TheBatMan shows the PS Store page forResident Evil 3, with a PS5 upgrade seemingly available. This has caused many to post their excitement about the possibility that the next-gen port will be rolling out soon. It could also mean that an Xbox Series version is just on the horizon, as well. However, nothing has been officially confirmed, but the image on Twitter does give many fans hope.

Capcom has already spoken aboutResident Evilupgrades, specifically for games 2, 3, and 7. Information that the company divulged suggests that the upgrades will be free to those who have already purchased the aforementioned games, either on PC or console. The one downside to this, however, is that users who want current-gen versions on console will need to have a PS5 or Xbox Series system that can read discs, so that means players can’t use the PS5 Digital Edition or Xbox Series S to get the free upgrade.
In general, the recent tweet is an exciting bit of speculation for any fan of theResident Evil 3remake. With Nemesis beingone of the most powerfulResident Evilbosses, the original 1999 release left something of a mark in the early days of the franchise. It was also the last entry in the series to feature the fixed camera perspective and tank control system that typified the games up until the fourth installment came out a few years later.
It may not be considered the best orscariestResident Evilgameout there, butRE3 Remakeis still a solid continuation of one of gaming’s most influential horror series. The biggest gripe fans have with it is its short length when compared to the others. Still, there are many out there who have been waiting for the remake to come to PS5 and Xbox Series, so hopefully that will be happening any day now.
Resident Evil 3is available now on PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
