This would include an overview of what players can expect from both part one and part two of the expansion.
Players who stayed until the last second would be told that the first piece of the DLC would launch on September 13. This announcement would come shortly after the breakdown of whatboth The Teal Mask and The Indigo Diskcontain respectfully. What Pokemon Scarlet and Violet’s Photo Mode Lacked
InPokemon ScarletandViolet, trainers can use their Rotom Phones to take pictures and selfies. Alongside that, the games give players a selection of emotes that can be activated outside of photo mode so that trainers can take pictures with each other while journeying through Paldea. The feature was announced in advance just like the Teal Mask’s Roto-Stick, but it unfortunately ended up falling short of many players' needs and expectations.
With the concept of a mainlinePokemongame featuring a way for fans to take photos, it would have been easily understood that this means that trainers can pose with their creatures for cute snapshots. Even thoughsome Pokemon can react to players' emotes, the critters won’t react at all to their trainer getting their camera out for a selfie or two. For those who like taking pictures of important catches like legendaries or Shinies, this was a bit of a let-down.
However, the Roto-Stick that players can obtainin Kitakamiseems to be looking to change things. In the trailer, a trainer can be seen calling to her Ninetales to take a picture with it, making sure that it’s looking into the camera with the Roto-Stick being used. In another shot using the Roto-Stick, other players and their Pokemon are seen smiling and looking directly into the camera, saying that at least players will be able to reliably get their critters to smile for pictures.
This is an important change for Shiny Hunters and even just casual fans ofScarlet and Violet’sPokedex lineupas before, getting pictures with their Pokemon were a hit or miss endeavor. Either trainers would have to move their pocket monsters to get them to face the right direction, or they’d have to race against the clock to get the picture before the critter either ran circles around them or fell asleep.
As great as this is players should try to keep their expectations low as to what the Roto-Stick can do for pictures with Pokemon. While the trailer makes it clear that creatures will move when they’re in the picture, meaning some cute trick-shots are possible with the right timing, it doesn’t look like the critters will react to specific poses or emotes by their trainer. This leaves the feature rather limited when it comes to showing off the player’scaught Pokemonto other fans.
These changes still make it clear that Game Freak is trying to give what players would expect from these features overtime through these improvements. Even thoughPokemon ScarletandViolet’sphoto mode lacks a bit of coverage in what players want out of the feature, it’s still rather popular and will likely be brought back to be better than ever in a futurePokemontitle. In that regard, the wider angles and the inclusion of Pokemon are a great start to what might be more worthwhile and funfeatures in Generation 10.
