Pokemon Scarlet and Violethave revealed eight new Pokemon so far, including three starters, two legendaries, and three Pokemon that players will be able to encounter out in the wild. Out of all the new Pokemon revealed forPokemon Scarlet and Violetso far, though, one that seems to be getting the most attention is Normal-type pig Pokemon Lechonk. It didn’t take thePokemoncommunity long at all to create countless memes and fan art in its honor, and it’s clear that Lechonk is going to be quite a popular new addition to the franchise when the games launch later this year.

All things considered, Nintendo and Game Freak really haven’t revealed all that much about Lechonk. Lechonk’s Pokedex entry confirms that while it looks fat, its actually made almost entirely of muscle. We also know that Lechonk is a Normal-type, and the latestPokemon Scarlet and Violettrailer showed Lechonk very briefly participate in a Pokemon battle againstWater-type starter Pokemon Quaxly. There’s still a lot more to learn about Lechonk, including its possible evolution.

Chances are good that Lechonk will evolve, but the only question is what exactly will Lechonk evolve into. While most fans assume that Lechonk will simply become a larger pig, probably with tusks and more defined muscles, one fan theorizes thatLechonkwill instead become a Flying-type Pokemon. EveryPokemongame has its Pidgey-equivalent regional bird, and some fans think that Lechonk will actually fill that role inPokemon Scarlet and Violet.

It seemsPokemonfans are receptive to this idea, though some think that Lechonk is really the obligatory regional “rodent” equivalent, filling in the role of Rattata, Bidoof, and the like. However, others think thatElectric-type Pokemon Pawmiis filling that role in the new games instead (though it’s more likely that Pawmi is the Pikachu clone forScarlet and Violet). We may have to wait for more new Pokemon reveals to be sure, but in the meantime, it will definitely be interesting to see if Lechonk becomes a Flying-type pig when it evolves.

ThePokemon Scarlet and Violetrelease dateis currently scheduled for November 18, meaning there’s still about five months to go before the games will be available to the masses. There’s still plenty of time for Nintendo to release trailers and otherwise hype up the newPokemongames, and fans can expect it to do just that in the months leading up to their release. Only twoPokemon Scarlet and Violettrailers have been revealed so far, but more are almost certainly on the way.

These newPokemon Scarlet and Violettrailers may reveal Lechonk’s evolution line, but it’s also possible thatLechonk’s evolutionswill be kept secret until the games launch.Pokemonfans will find out later this year.

Pokemon Scarlet and Violetwill launch on November 18, exclusively for the Nintendo Switch.
