OnePokemon Scarlet and Violetfan has created a sad new evolution to a newer fan-favorite critter known as Tandemaus. The series has turned into a colossal collection of many creatures after its humble beginnings of just 150 pocket monsters over the years. Even after the series has over a thousand unique creatures to its name as ofPokemon Scarlet and Violet, fans have still looked to the titular critters for inspiration on designing their own Pokemon. This includes drawing intriguing alternate versions, likeParadox Mawileand many other ideas.Tandemaus, introduced inPokemon Scarletand Violet, has caught the eye of players for many reasons. For example, fans are intrigued that it’s a pair of mice rather than just one critter and that its evolution animation into Maushold can be skipped by accident. As sweet as this romantic and family-oriented Pokemon can be, a fan has used its concept to create a tragic second evolution for Tandemaus where the creature becomes Normal/Ghost-type.RELATED:Pokemon Fan Carves Impressive Rayquaza Box For Storing Trading CardsTwitter user arnau555 seems to have been wondering what would happenif a Tandemaus lost its partnersomehow, as being a couple is needed to evolve into the happy family the creature becomes. His answer to this question is that the Pokemon would become part Ghost-type and become “Mausgrief,” where the lost significant other becomes tied to the one that’s still alive due to their bond and haunts them after death.

The artwork Arnau has made for Mausgrief drives home just how heartbreaking this potential pocket monster could be, as it sees the remaining Tandemaus sitting as it cries while the ghostly one rests on top of its head as if nothing was wrong. The concept seems to be having the desired effect, as many of the comments left on the art piece are of fans saying how much the idea has made them sad. Some are even going as far as to say that they’re glad that Mausgrief isonly a fan-made Pokemonand not a real one.

Arnau typically enjoys designing fan-made Pokemon in his spare time, and while many fans are glad that Mausgrief doesn’t exist, he’s designed plenty of other creatures than fans may have liked to see in official titles. One impressive example was Arnau’s prediction of theSprigatito evolutionary line, which leaned heavily into the theory that the Grass-type starter was inspired by an endangered Spanish lynx. If fans enjoy the design of Mausgreif, they may want to check out his Twitter where he showcases many more designs in just as much thought-out detail.
