Niantic and The Pokemon Company appear to be hinting at the long-awaited arrival of the Master Ball item inPokemon GO. The Master Ball item would allowPokemon GOplayers to easily catch any Pokemon of their choosing while traveling to PokeStops, gyms, and raid locations.

The officialPokemon GOInstagram account posted a teaser that hints at the debut of the Master Ball for an upcoming event. The teaser image depicts all Poke Balls that are available for use inPokemon GOwith the only exception being the Master Ball itself. Moreover, the Instagram account states that something new is in development, further implying that the Master Ball may be coming soon toPokemon GO. Currently,Pokemon GOplayers have access to Poke Balls, Great Balls, Ultra Balls, Premier Balls, and Beast Balls. These in-game items may be acquired by opening gifts, completing research tasks, andvisiting PokeStops inPokemon GO.
Recent datamines forPokemon GOrevealed the existence of a Master Ball container within the game’s files, fueling speculation about the potential debut of Master Balls. However, Niantic and The Pokemon Company did not confirm any official details about the Master Ball container. While awaiting new information, some users have suggested that Master Balls may arrive with a new event or a Special Research Story due to the container’s unique animation.
The Master Ball teaser might imply that Niantic is preparing to introduce powerful Pokemon intoPokemon GOthat would warrant a capture by using the powerful item. In traditional Pokemon titles likePokemon Scarlet and Violet, Master Balls are a great asset while attempting to capture Legendary Pokemon. Master Balls are useful toward ensuring the successful capture of elusive Shiny Pokemon as well.
Pokemon GOplayers could leverage the use of Master Balls in an upcoming Legendary Pokemon event, but nothing has been directly confirmed by Niantic and The Pokemon Company just yet.
