While the rest of the world gears up for summer, mobile appPokemon GOwill instead be saying goodbye to the tropical islands of Alola. This Hawaii-inspired region served as the setting for a series of recentPokemon GOevents, collectively termed the “Season of Alola.” As the Season winds down, developer Niantic revealed that there will be one more celebration of all things Alola.
The Alola region, first introduced in the 2016 main series titlesPokemon Sun and Moon, consists of four islands, each home to several unique species of Pokemon. Pokemon found in this area are often brightly colored, and include creatures inspired by traditional Hawaiian lei, various styles of dancing, tropical fish, and even sandcastles.Sun and Moon, the seventh generation ofPokemongames, were also the first to introduce"regional variants"- differently appearing versions of previously existing Pokemon. Many popular Pokemon received a redesign and new type assignment for Alola, including Rattata, Exeggutor, Vulpix, Meowth, and more.

The Season of Alola inPokemon GObegan on July 03, 2025, and will conclude on June 1. It featured four new Special Research quest chains, each focusing on one of the four islands of Alola. Some, but not all, of the Alolan Pokemon were added to the game, including several regional variants. In particular, island guardians Tapu Koko, Tapu Lele, Tapu Bulu, and Tapu Fini could be beaten and caught inraid battles. Tropical-themed clothing and accessories for players' avatars was also added, including a Comfey-inspired lei.
“Alola to Alola,” the final event before the Season of Alola concludes, will allow players to choose between four Special Research paths, again inspired by the four islands. Each path will feature encounters with different Alolan Pokemon as well as rewards such as incubators, eggs, berries, and more. At the conclusion of each set of research is a unique Oricorio Hat for the player’s avatar. In addition, all four Tapu will be available in raids at once, while several Alolan Pokemon, includingstarters Litten, Popplio, and Rowlet, will be appearing more frequently in the wild.
The Melemele Island path of the research focuses on sending gifts to friends and taking pictures of wild Pokemon. It rewards players with Lucky Eggs, an Alolan Raichu encounter, and a Pom-Pom Oricorio Hat. Players who want to challenge themselves to walk a certain number of kilometers can take the Akala Island path, encountering incubators, Alolan Marowak, and a Pa’u Oricorio Hat along the way. Those who want to show off their best throw skills can journey to Ula’ula Island, where Alolan Vulpix awaits alongside Incense rewards and a Baile Oricorio hat. Finally, battle fans can challenge Poni Island to earn Star Pieces, faceAlolan Exeggutor, and don a Sensu Oricorio Hat.
