Summary

A talentedPokemonfan and artist is sharing their latest artwork, which features a Generation 1 classic Pokemon in Cubone. While thePokemonfandom has proven to be able to create fan art in a wide variety of mediums, this fan in particular uses a medium that is rather peculiar: bike chains.

A Ground-type around since the inception of thePokemonfranchise, Cubone is one of the more iconic of the original 151 Pokemon, easily recognizable by the skull of its dead mother which it wears like a helmet, never taking it off. Because Cubone’s true face has never actually been seen in canon,Pokemonfans have recently been divided on the theory thatCubone is really a Charmander or a baby Kangaskhan, with both sides bringing forth supporting evidence to make their case.

The impressive Cubone model made out of a bike chain comes from a Reddit user aptly named PokeWelder-Zach, who posted their creation to one of the site’s primaryPokemonforums. The artist and welder is able to capture all of Cubone’s defining features, including its skull and its bone weapon. In addition to being painted with accurate coloring, the artist added several small touches which greatly helped in adding detail, including painting cracks and the nose holes of the skull, as well as bending out the ends of the bike chain link Cubone’s holding to look more like a bone.

The post shows the bike chain model of Cubone from both sides, along with what appear to be several otherPokemonbike chain models in the background. The artist is quite the prolific welder, having made many other Pokemon in the same way prior to Cubone. The artist made well over a dozendifferent Pokemon models out of bike chainslast year, including fan-favorites such as Snorlax, Metagross, Dragonite, and many more.

The Many Fan Forms of Cubone

In addition to being created from bike chains, fans have made Cubone models with other unusual twists, including onePokemonfan that modeled Cubone as a rubber duck. A friend’s birthday gift, this fan created a classic rubber duck profile and gave it Cubone’s features, creating a seriously adorable outcome. While vastly different from the bike chain model above, the two art pieces show the breadth of creativity present in thePokemonfandom.

While the bike chain Cubone’s creator does mention they sell their creations in the comments section, fans looking for something more official can now get their very ownproperPokemonCubone plush. However, it is a little depressing.
