The originalPokemongames have paved the way for all those that followed building a long-lasting franchise that is still immensely popular to this day. One fan brings it all back with a terrarium they made out of a Game Boy and with thePokemonBulbasaur.
Bulbasaur is one of the original starter Pokemon from Game Freak’s first games in the franchise fromPokemon Red and Greenwhich was released in 1996 in Japan. Bulbasaur is the grass-type starter along with fire-type Charmander, and water-type Squirtle. The game was originally played on the original Game Boy, the first handheld gaming platform of its kind.

Reddit user Western_Muffin_5668 posted two pictures of a terrarium they made out of what seems to be the shell of a Game Boy console. The terrarium has a bunch of fake flowers and plants sprouting out of where the screen and buttons would be as if growing out of the handheld console the game was being played on. It also has aBulbasaur figurestanding on the plants, greeting anyone who meets it with a big smile.
It’s unclear whether Western_Muffin_5668 made the Bulbasaur figure and the Game Boy shell but it does appear to be a real hollowed-out Game Boy Color or one that was painted green. It is of course completely possible they bought a figure ofBulbasaur, 3D printed one or even sculpted it themselves. Either way, it’s very well made and in a very creative concept as well.
This adorable terrarium is stunning, and is one of the coolest fan creations out there, aside from whena fan made a crystal sculpture of Onix. A terrarium is a small enclosed habitat for plants usually involving a sealable glass container and they typically house real plants, but it makes sense why this one at least seems to have fake plants since the scale of it is very small. The terrarium has a nice atmosphere to it that seems like an area a Bulbasaur would inhabit in the games.
It’s with mentioning that most Pokemon terrariums that are widely available are made with transparentPoke Ballswith a scene inside of one or two Pokemon inside. This is a more popular way artists and official Pokemon merchandise have depicted Pokemon terrariums. This version is more unique since it’s made with a Game Boy making it feel more classic in nature since it uses the platform originally used to play the game Bulbasaur originated in.
