There are countless cosmetic skins available inOverwatch 2to give each hero some extra flair, and one of Echo’s most popular skins actually includes a simple but sweet detail that perfectly matches one of her emotes. It’s hardly a rarity for skins inOverwatch 2to include details which give heroes slightly different sound effects or new lines of dialogue, but few skins have been designed to have a direct effect on a hero’s emotes.
Cosmetics have always been a huge part ofOverwatch 2and its predecessor alike, though the system for acquiring them has changed substantially along with the release of the sequel. Where the original game included loot boxes which offered randomized loot and could be acquired through gameplay at no additional cost,Overwatch 2has scrapped this mechanism entirely and replaced it with a new shop section that allows players to directly purchase items from the hero gallery alongside a shop selection that rotates on a weekly basis. Many of themonetization changes made inOverwatch 2appear to have been a direct result of the game’s decision to go free-to-play, though the new seasonal model also means that the game frequently enjoys plenty of new cosmetics.

Some of the game’s cosmetics grant some subtle touches to the heroes that use them, and fans have noticed that one of Echo’s skins goes perfectly with her paddleboard emote. The skin in question is her Surf’s Up skin, which was added duringone ofOverwatch’s Summer Games eventsback in 2020. One fan of the game named Airbernde on Reddit put the spotlight on this skin in a popular post that they made on the site, which shows that Echo actually creates a paddleboard using her wings when using the respective emote with the skin equipped. In the basic version of the emote, the paddleboard she rides is entirely digital.
Echo’s paddleboard emote is available inthe battle pass forOverwatch 2’s current season, though only if players have purchased the premium battle pass that grants access to premium rewards. The free cosmetic items offered by each season’s battle pass provide fans with some free rewards for playing, though fans largely remain unimpressed with the monetization practises employed inOverwatch 2.
Given the direction thatOverwatch 2has taken with its decision to go fully free-to-play, fans likely won’t see much change in the way they’re able to obtain new skins and cosmetics. One big and welcomechange thatOverwatch 2has made in more recent seasonsis the ability to earn a separate form of credits through gameplay, and while it can’t be used to purchase most new skins and bundles, it does allow players to snag older skins alongside some of the sprays, voice lines, and highlight intros they’ve been seeking.
Overwatch 2is available on PC, PS4, PS5, Switch, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
