A new preview for Jordan Peele’s third horror filmNopeis out and with it, the director has finally confirmed the nature of the movie’s plot, pitting its protagonists against an invisible alien threat. However, that’s about as far as Peele might be willing to go asNope’strailer remains just as puzzling.

The first teaser forNopewas released during this year’s Super Bowl, then introducing audiences to the Haywood siblings, James (Daniel Kaluuya) and Jill (Keke Palmer), heirs to the first and only black-owned horse training ranch in Hollywood, yet very little was said besides that. Instead,Nopeonly showcased tiny glimpses at the Haywoods' life getting turned upside down, but now the final trailer officially confirms what the movie’s poster had already leaned into, Peele is taking on aliens this time around.

Certainly,Nopedoesn’t beat around the bush too much as the trailer opens up right into the horrific scenario that haunts the Haywood ranch as an unnamed threat straight from the sky first takes out their Pops. What follows is some brief insight into how James and Jill go about dealing with their alien problem, which involves hiring the help of presumed UFO specialist Craig (Michael Wincott) to capture what they call “the Oprah shot” of this life from another planet, whose airship might just show up towards the end, — though the latter part is probably a bluff, no one will really know for sure until July 22 when the film finally premieres.

For a film as wrapped in mystery asNope, it might be worth it for fans of Peele’s work to check outthe movie’s international trailerfor a different perspective on how the director can incite so much interest in thispromising piece of sci-fi horror. Like his breakout movieGet Outand the subsequentUs,Nopecomes from Peele’s own Monkeypaw Productions studio and will again be distributed by Universal.

Expectations for the film are quite high and will only be fueled even more by this trailer, but like the shadow that looms over the Haywoods' ranch, many will wonder ifNopecan live up to Peele’s past horror movies, especially becauseUsnever received the kind of recognitionGet Out. At the very least, fans of Peele’s comedic work can rest assuredNopewill feature some funny moments given the brotherly chemistry between its two protagonists.

Another big mystery is how Peele will tie in his usual social commentary, though perhaps the Haywood’s sole origin story speaks of that, just like the early soundtrack featuring African American artists like Stevie Wonder appears to do. Peele definitely couldteach Marvel a lesson about mysterious trailers, because Nope gives nothing away as it lures potential viewers.
