HBOhas released a new trailer for season 3 of the acclaimed dark comedy series,Barry. The Emmy-award-winning series stars SNL alumni Bill Hader as a hitman who finds solace in the LA theater scene.

The new trailer forHBO’sBarryseason 3 opens with the lonely assassin, standing in a secluded field as he munches on a pastry. In a quick succession of shots, we see flashbacks to the events of last season, when Barry’s old mentor Fuches (Stephen Root) revealed to his new mentor, acting coach Gene Cousineau (Henry Winkler), that it was Barry who killed his lover at the end of season 1.

TheBarryseason 3trailer then gives us a glimpse at all the returning characters, including Barry’s love interest and fellow aspiring actor Sally (Sarah Goldberg) as well as everyone’s favorite Chechnyan gangster, NoHo Hank (Anthony Cardigan). Everyone looks pretty solemn, especially Mr. Cousineau, who’s clearly dealing with the realization of what Barry has done. As these scenes play out, we hear Barry say, “We’ve both done terrible things in our lives, but everybody deserves a second chance.” It’s revealed that he’s talking to Noho Hank, who hilariously replies, “Forgiveness is something that has to be earned, it’s like that line in Shawshank Redemption: Get rich, or die trying”.

Created by Hader and executive producer Alec Berg,Barryfocuses on Barry Berkman, a combat veteran turned assassin for hire who after traveling to LA to carry out a hit, joins an acting class taught by eccentric acting coach Gene Cousineau. Ever since it premiered on HBO in 2018,Barryhas quickly become one of the network’s most popular current shows. The series has received numerous awards and nominations, including Primetime Emmy’s for both Hader and Winkler, with Hader receiving the Outstanding Actor in a Comedy Series award twice.

The series features a unique blend of dark themes and comedic elements, which is particularly highlighted in the season 3 trailer. The premise of a hitman turned actor seems comedic enough on its own, but time and time againBarryhas found ways to touch on serious subjects such as trauma and redemption whilebalancing its dark comedy. Audiences may be used to frequent delays for Movies and TV shows in the past two years, but the wait forBarryseason 3 has been particularly grueling since the second season concluded all the way back in 2019 with a brutal cliffhanger that could potentially shake up the whole series.

Barryseason 3 premieres on HBO on April 24th, 2022.
