That is precisely where Blaze Release falls in the world ofNaruto. Understanding Blaze Release can be very complicated since this jutsu functions very differently from the other types of techniques in series. However, over the course of years, Kishimoto explained to the fans how the usage of Blaze Release differs from other styles.
The Basis For Blaze Release
To understand Blaze Release, fans first need to understand the basis for this technique, which is Amaterasu. The Amaterasuwas first used by Itachi UchihainNaruto. Itachi possesses the power of Amaterasu in has left Mangekyo Sharingan and using this power, he could, simply put, incinerate anything within a matter of seconds. One would wonder how that differentiates its nature from Fire Release, it doesn’t, however, it is a much more potent version of the same technique which is also unstoppable.
Instead of manipulating normal flames, the user can manipulate black flames with Amaterasu and these flames are said to be in extinguishable. It is believed that the flames of Amaterasu can burn for 7 days and 7 nights, which just goes to show that they are not anything to take lightly. They also burn as hot as the surface of the sun and that, once again, goes to show that the Amaterasu simply cannot be stopped if hit.
Itachi Uchiha possessed great mastery over the jutsuof Amaterasu. Through his other eye, he could use Tsukuyomi, however, he was equally skilled with both techniques. After Itachi’s death, Sasuke Uchiha gained the power of Amatarasu when he awakened his Mangekyo Sharingan. Sasuke could use Amaterasu through either eye and his usage of this ability was quite incredible. However, while Itachi possessed Tsukuyomi in one of his eyes, Sasuke gained the ability to heighten the powers of Amaterasu even further, which is what gave birth to Blaze Release.
What Is Blaze Release?
Blaze Release is quite a confusing technique in the world ofNaruto. The naming implies that Blaze Release is actually a nature transformation or a Kekkei Genkai ability, however, that is not the case. Blaze Release has never been mentioned to be either of those things and, simply put, it is actually under the bracket of Fire Release. Blaze Release is only believed to be the highest form of Fire Release. This means that the very pinnacle of Fire Release is called Blaze Release and, so far, only Sasuke has managed to achieve that. While Itachi also possesses this power,Sasuke uses it in incredibly unique ways.
Often, fans find themselves confused when talking about Sasuke’s Mangekyo Sharingan. Many believe that Sasuke just had one ability in his eye, however, he, in fact, had two, just like his brother. While Sasuke could simply use Amaterasu through one eye, just like Itachi, his other eye allowed him to apply shape transformation to this and manipulate the flames however he wanted. This eradicated the biggest weakness of the Amatarasu, which is that it cannot be manipulated according to the will of the user. Amaterasu can be fired in the line of sight and, thus, the user cannot do much with it. It can be dodged or blocked against using different means such as a chakra cloak, among other things. These counters cannot be bypassed by using Amaterasu and if one does overuse this technique, they will eventually go blind.
To counter that, Sasuke’s eye evolved to a point where it could apply shape transformation to the black flames of the Amaterasu. This means that Sasuke can essentially recreate the black flames and mold them however he wants. For instance, he can create a sword out of the black flames of the Amaterasu. He can manipulate the flames of Amaterasu however he wants and control them however he likes. He can create shields arrows and whatnot and even infuse Amaterasu with his other Jutsu, as seen with Kagutsuchi Chidori.

When Sasuke utilizes the powers of Amaterasu with shaped transformation, he calls it Blaze Release. Essentially, Blaze Release is a form of Fire Release that is incredibly potent and allows Sasuke to manipulate the flames just like one wood with regular flames. The reason why Amaterasu cannot be considered Blaze Release is because it cannot be manipulated according to the will of the user and is simply a Jutsu that can be fired and not controlled properly. Meanwhile, Sasuke’s Blaze Release sees the black flames being manipulated however he wants, akin to how a normal user works with Fire Release.
The Versatility Of Blaze Release
Blaze Release is incredibly versatile and quite easily one of Sasuke’s strongest weapon in Naruto. Even before completely mastering this technique, Sasuke could use it to great effect. In his fight against the Raikage, Sasuke was seenwrapping the ribcage of his Susanoowith Blaze Release, making sure that the Raikage couldn’t deal tremendous amounts of damage to him. He was able to create a wall of black flames with his Mangekyo Sharingan and forced the Raikage to sacrifice an arm, which just goes to show that this technique is not one to take lightly. Furthermore, Sasuke can do much more than just that with the black flames of Blaze Release.
Not only can he create walls with this Jutsu but he can also shape it into pointy arrows that can penetrate the opponent as well as incinerate them at the same time. Once again, this was seen in his clash against the Raikage where the latter was actually pushed back by Sasuke despite being already weakened.
Furthermore, Sasuke can also use this technique to create powerful swords and wield them in his hands without actually burning himself. He can shape the weapons however he wants and coat his sword in the black flames of Amaterasu easily. Furthermore, Sasuke can also combine the black flames of Blaze Release with his other Jutsu. Fans have seen him combine this technique with his Chidori to increase its potency during the fight against Naruto.
While Blaze Release is incredibly dangerous in battle, it cannot be extensively used by a user of the Mangekyo Sharingan. Overusing the Mangekyo Sharingan causes permanent blindness, however, Sasuke bypasses this when he gains the eyes of his brother and gets a hold of the Eternal Mangekyo Sharingan. With the power of these eyes, Sasuke’s control over Blaze Release improves tremendously and he becomes an impeccable user of this art. In the Fourth Great Ninja War, Sasuke was seen able to manipulate the shape of the black flames into different things such as giant spears, arrows, magatama beads, and even swords. He was even able to combine his black flames with Naruto’s Rasenshuriken, which again, shows that he has impeccable control over these black flames and his shaped transformation skills are on an entirely different level.
Even in adulthood, Blaze Release remains to be one of Sasuke’s strongest weapons in combat and fans can only hope to see him make use of this technique more in the future, perhaps, even improving further on it and delivering something even more amazing.
