Wonder Womanwas announced at The Game Awards 2021, but nothing more has been shared since then. The reveal itself only offered a quick, cinematic look at the titular character as well as its title logo, and since it could be a while until anything more is shared, all fans have to go off of in terms of what to expect is that it is being made byMiddle-earthduologydeveloper, Monolith. With this in mind, it would not be surprising ifWonder Womandrew inspiration fromShadow of MordororShadow of War.

IfMiddle-earth’s Nemesis system AIis reprised, it would be interesting to see how that could apply to the enemies that Diana encounters. It can be assumed that Wonder Woman’s shield, sword, and bracers will all be useful in combat, allowing for players to block any kind of gunfire. Likewise, Wonder Woman’s Amazonian abilities will let her move as swiftly as Talion can move when imbued by Celebrimbor. However,Shadow of Mordor’s interrogation mechanic could easily be carried over using Wonder Woman’s Lasso of Truth.

How Monolith’s Middle-earth Games Can Lay the Groundwork for Wonder Woman

Middle-earth:Shadow of MordorandShadow of Warfeature an interrogation mechanic intrinsic to its Nemesis system. This allows players to overwhelm vulnerable enemies - including “worms,” or enemies whose health has been depleted enough to a point where they are cognitively susceptible - and useCelebrimbor’s spectral abilities inShadow of Mordorto force them to reveal information.

Different actions are available based on how far players have progressed in the narrative or what skills they have unlocked, including prompts that allow players to gain intel about other enemies or simply kill their captive if they have no further use for them. Players can later use these interrogations as an opportunity to assimilate enemies, send death threats to other enemies, “shame” them to reduce their level, and more.

The interrogation mechanic only needs all of these options if a dedicated Nemesis system is in place, allowing players to learn more about enemy ranks and undo them via their own grunts. ButWonder Womanwould do well to find a place for this mechanic since her lariat would make that transition incredibly smooth.

Wonder Woman Could Interrogate Enemies with Her Lasso of Truth

Wonder Woman’s Lasso of Truthis essentially identical in terms of its function in interrogations. Once it has enveloped someone, the lariat forces them to obey Diana’s commands and tell the truth. This could be fantastic if players can whip the lariat at a vulnerable enemy, reel them in, and gain intel on other enemies throughoutWonder Woman’s Themyscira.

If Diana travels between Themyscira and the known world, it could be difficult to have this same AI system in place for ordinary human enemies. It would be excellent to see enemies who could work themselves into a hierarchy structure that Diana needs to topple, but only time will tell how elaborate its systems will be.

Moreover,Wonder Woman’s lariat doubles as an integral weapon that could be paired with her shield and sword, used as a grapple in order to reach ledges and cross gaps likeGod of War Ragnarok’s Blades of Chaos. There are many different implementations possible for the Lasso of Truth that would make it a seminal piece of equipment inWonder Woman, and it would only make sense for Monolith to find a way to incorporate its truth serum-esque functionality into gameplay like how Celebrimbor could interrogate enemies in theMiddle-earthfranchise.

Wonder Womanis currently in development.
