Last monthMixerunceremoniously came to an end. It was announced thatMicrosoft was folding Mixer into Facebook Gamingand since then the platform has been quietly losing streamers as they look for different avenues to interact with their audience. Despite streamers leaving the platform, it has been up and running until yesterday, and while this may have been a good point to say a collective goodbye to the streaming service it seems that the platform had a small turn out.
With the latestXbox One update removing the streaming application, yesterday was a final chance for those who have used Mixer to say goodbye. However, the site is pretty quiet with only a few well-known streamers appearing. Many have criticized the way Mixer shut down because of its sudden nature and these critiques have now extended to the way the final days of the platform have been organized.

There has been no organized farewell and instead, streamers like BeeYoo have taken it upon themselves to say goodbye to fans. BeeYoo serenaded fans with a ukelele as they sang “You Really Got A Hold On Me” by Smokey Robinson And The Miracles. Many fans appreciated this stream as a lot of streamers have simply left a banner which lets viewers know where they can be found now thatMixeris on its way out.
Other streamers said goodbye to Mixer with a casual stream. SagaBoy K simply talked with fans about how Mixer has folded and the lack of word from the service since the announcement of its end. As a result, the end of the service seems eerily quiet and SagaBoy K commented “Even on Twitter, you’re not seeing [many] messages of people saying goodbye.”
WASD has created a YouTube tribute to the good times on Mixer and took the time to comment to Kotaku on the feelings that they are experiencing, “Meffy (another Mixer streamer) and I developed an annual award show. So I’m sad to lose years’ worth of time and effort that were spent helping to strengthen and promote the streamers of the site. But I’m also grateful to have met some of the most talented, encouraging, inspirational people that have literally changed my life. I also met the love of my life on this site. So I will always have fond memories of Beam and Mixer.” This is a touching sentiment that highlights the positives that the service delivered. Conversely, the positive note brings thenegative impact of Mixer closinginto focus and how sad it is that the company did not take the time to properly say goodbye to its users.
Mixer once seemed to be competition for Twitchand has now left the streaming competition abruptly. While it is a shame for the service, the last day of its existence highlighted the troubles that streamers are now facing in bringing their success to a new platform and continuing to do what they enjoy.
