Magician Penn Jillette, part of the popular team Penn & Teller, has joined the ever-growing cast of the live-actionBorderlandsfilm. For fans of the franchise, this won’t come as a surprise because he is already part of theBorderlandsuniverse. He has previously voiced one of the characters in the magical duo Pain and Terror inBorderlands 3. But, his movie avatar will be very different and involve no magic.
Jillette confirmed his involvement in the project during an episode of hisSunday Schoolpodcast. It is now known that his part is just a cameo, with the magician referring to it as “a very, very, very small part,” and most of his scenes will be withKevin Hart as ex-soldier turned mercenary Roland. Jillette will be filming his scenes in Budapest and will be on set for three weeks.

While most details of theBorderlandsplot are being kept a secret, with only a summarized synopsis released by Lionsgate so far, fans were surprised that Jillette revealed so much information on his podcast. One scene he will be a part of will showcase a wedding ceremony, where a fight breaks out in trueBorderlandsstyle. Jillette will be the preacher officiating the ceremony, who then awkwardly stands around as the other characters fight it out. In another scene, he will be seen in “a space paddywagon with Kevin Hart” and he claims to only have “four lines” in the movie.
Jillette is only the latest member to join the roster of theBorderlandsmovie. A large ensemble has already gathered to partake in Lionsgate’s highly-anticipated adaptation. The star-studded cast already includes Cate Blanchett as Lilith, Jamie Lee Curtis as Dr. Tannis, Jack Black as Claptrap, Gina Gershon as Moxxi, Janina Gavankar as Commander Knox, Florian Munteanu as Krieg, Ariana Greenblatt as Tiny Tina, andEdgar Ramirez as Atlas.
The film will follow Blanchett’s Lilith on a mission to find Atlas’ missing daughter. Along the way, she will be seen forming an alliance with the remaining characters, which should result in a chaotic journey. The movie, which is not going to be anaccurate adaptation of any of theBorderlandsgames, is already in production and is being directed by Eli Roth. The script for the film has been written by Craig Mazin, known for HBO’sChernobyl.
Of course, while Jillette is primarily known as a magician, this is hardly the first time he will appear on screen as an actor. His resume includes roles inan episode ofThe West Wing,The Simpsons, and Disney’sFantasia 2000.
