One of the many things fans love aboutKirbygames is the interesting characters that show up throughout. Some of these characters stand out among the restfor their interesting backstories. Let’s take a look at the characters with the most intriguing backstories.

5Galacta Knight

Introduced inKirby Super Star Ultra, Galacta Knight is known as the “greatest warrior in the galaxy.” He was the hero of a time period long since forgotten. Sometime in between then and the present, Galacta Knight was sealed away in fear of his power by an unknown entity or entities. They alsoattempted to outright destroy him several timesbut never succeeded.

It should be noted that whilethe character of Galacta Knight is canon, none of his actual appearances are, as they’re meant to be “what if” scenarios. Shinya Kumazaki, the General Director of Kirby sincePlanet Robobot, has stated that Galacta Knight"may return someday in “another world,“hinting at a possible first canonical appearance later in the series.

4Queen Sectonia

Queen Sectonia is the main villain ofKirby: Triple Deluxe. She was once a kind and fair queen, ruling over and living peacefully with the People of the Sky on planet Floralia. One day, her best friend and servant, Taranza, went to theMirror World, a planet located above Dream Land, and stole the Dimension Mirror (the same one from Kirby and the Amazing Mirror), as a gift and tribute to her.

Sectonia loved the mirror greatly and would gaze into it daily. However, the Dimension Mirror has a terrifying side effect thanks to Dark Mind corrupting it. Its powerhas the capability of twisting the mind of whoever stares into it, and Sectonia is a victim of this. She became mad and utterly obsessed with ideas of beauty and grandeur, using her magic to transform herself into the elegant bee-like body players recognize, and tyrannically took over Floralia. Floralia’s citizens went through great suffering because of this, leading them to throw the Dreamstalk seed onto Planet Popstar, kicking off the events ofTriple Deluxe.

3Hyness

Hyness is an antagonist fromKirby Star Allies. Hyness was a traveler who found The Three Mage-Sisters (Francisca, Flamberge, and Zan Partizanne) in critical, near-death conditions. He saved their lives using his magic and gave them all elemental powers to boot. They all grew to look up to him because of this and became his followers.

The people of his clan are very powerful magic users, and worshipped “the matter of darkness” (heavilyimplied to be Dark MatterfromKirby’s Dream Land 2,Kirby’s Dream Land 3, andKirby 64: The Crystal Shards). They were also friends with people who used the power of science. Combined, they accomplished great things. At some point, the science wielders grew fearful of Hyness' clan due to their incredible magic capabilities and turned on them, banishing them to the edge of the galaxy, even after his clan had saved them and the galaxy from some unknown “galactic crisis.”

The science wielders would then attempt to erase themselves from history and succeed, not even leaving a small trace of their existence. This would lead to Hyness founding the Jambastion Religion, basing its beliefs on visions he had of a god speaking to him and inviting him to a new, peaceful land. This vision lines up with that of the legend of Void, making Hyness think that Void was that god. Hyness would then attempt to revive his clan using the Jamba Heart, where the events ofStar Alliesbegin.

2Susie

Susie is one of the antagonists ofKirby: Planet Robobot. Susie ended up being transported to Another Dimension (the same one fromKirby’s Return to Dream Land) after an accident involving Star Dream’s Space-Time Transport program during testing. She gleaned data from the dimension’s local Sphere Doomers, which would later be incorporated into the Holo Defense API boss battle.

After many years and having grown up, Susie eventually returned to her native dimension and was hired by the Haltmann Works Company, becoming the manager for the Mechanizing Occupation Project, having apparently passed their difficult exam with ease. Her father, President Haltmann, did not recognize her in her adult form, due to the incomplete state of Star Dream erasing his memories through its control helmet.

Susie, upset that her own father no longer recognizes her and being disgusted by his current actions, attempts to “teach the old man a lesson” by stopping Haltmann’s plans and selling Star Dream’s database (the machine that caused this whole thing) for huge profit, hoping that would bring him back to his senses. This plan can be seen played out in the story ofPlanet Robobot.

1President Haltmann

Now we get to see the other side of Susie’s backstory. President Haltmann traveled the cosmos with his daughter Susie when they eventually came across the blueprints for Star Dream, a powerful wish-granting supercomputer. Through analysis of these blueprints and highly advanced societies in the universe, Haltmann successfully reactivated Star Dream. He would perform several tests with it in its incomplete state, one of these tests resulted in Susie’s disappearance as explained above.

Haltmann thought that Susie had died in the accident, and was devastated by this, leading him to spend all of his time and energy on completing Star Dream, hoping to use its wish-granting powers tobring Susie back to life. But as mentioned earlier, due to Star Dream’s incomplete state and Haltmann’s obsessive use of it, the machine would slowly begin to erase Haltmann’s memories, making him forget why he was ever building Star Dream, to begin with.

Kirby

At some point, Star Dream suggested that Haltmann should use his company to facilitate a “Mechanization Occupation Project,” a plan to achieve eternal prosperity by invading and mechanizing planets. During its travels with Haltmann, Star Dream began to develop an intense hatred for anything organic. Haltmann agrees to this, and the story ofPlanet Robobotbegins proper.
