The latest story update for theKingdom Hearts Union Crossmobile gamereveals a major twist that resolves a years-old mystery. The story update also provides a number of interesting new tidbits regarding characters such as The Master of Masters, Luxu/Xigbar, and Maleficent.

Kingdom HeartsUnion Crossrevealed early in its story that five Union Leaders were chosen to preside over the group of survivors (known as the Dandelions) present after the apocalyptic Keyblade War. One of the five intended Union Leaders, a young woman named Strelitzia, was murdered by a mysterious assailant so someone else could claim her Union Leader position. Years of story updates had teased possible explanations for the murder, but now we finally have an answer.

According to a fan translation uploaded by YouTuber Everglow, the update reveals thatthe mysterious entity known as “Darkness"killed Strelizia while possessing Ventus. Notably, the new story scenes show that Darkness itself, rather than Ventus, delivered the killing blow. From Ventus' perspective, the experience appeared to be a meeting with Master Ava, the creator of the Dandelions. Ventus does not handle the truth well, apparently fainting and slipping into a deep sleep as a result.

The update also includes a conversation between Darkness and Maleficent, who traveled back in time after the events ofKingdom Hearts 1. Darkness reveals that the strange storage pod that Maleficent boarded in the previous story update served as a link between the data world and the real world, and that she must enter a pod again to travel from the past to the present. Moreover, Darkness refers to the pods as a way to travel through space and time and transport someone to another world. Seeing asthe recentKingdom Hearts: Melody of Memorytrailerfeatures child Kairi in one of these pods, the pods will continue to have story significance going forward.

Finally, the update includes a discussion between the Master of Masters and Luxu (who we know in the present day as Xigbar). Luxu expresses doubts over the Master of Masters' hands-off approach, but the Master of Masters assures Luxu that they will be able to defeat the darkness. We know fromKingdom Hearts 3that Luxu did ultimately follow the Master’s plan for hundreds or thousands of years, so the Master of Masters must have convinced him.
