2022 looks to be a rather stacked year for PlayStation owners. New exclusives are making their way to the console in abundance, such as the highly anticipated sequel toGod of War, God of War: Ragnarok.The first major Sony exclusive to drop in 2022 though isHorizon Forbidden West, a sequel to 2015’s post-apocalyptic adventure gameHorizon Zero Dawn. AsHorizon Zero Dawnwas a game met with positive public and critical reception, having just recently surpassed a major sales milestone, the hype for the sequel was plain to see.
With new machines to fight and override, a new story for players to dig deep into and a whole new area to explore,Horizon Forbidden Westhas proven to be packed with changes and new contentthat make it stand out from the first game. Despite theHorizongames being a new and big success for Sony, there was no news of an exclusive PS5 console or controller being released alongside the game. This didn’t stop one fan making their own though.

The idea of an exclusive piece of hardware tied to a game release seems to be becoming a thing of the past for Sony. While the PC market is still releasing hardware tied to games, like theexclusiveHalo InfiniteAMD graphics card, and Xbox also released a limited edition console celebratingHalo Infinite, there has not yet been a limited edition PS5. Fans then have had to make their own wraps for consoles and skins for controllers, such as oneHorizon Forbidden Westfan that decked out their controller with a skin inspired by the game.
The controller design was posted to Reddit and features theHorizon Forbidden Westlogo in the central touchpad, and designs on either side of the controller reflecting both the new map in the game and the technological focus. Under the post comments praised the design, asking theHorizon Zero Dawnfan how they’d achieved it. The fan had accordingly had to disassemble their own controller in order to then paint it and put it back together, so it takes a clear set of hardware and artistic skills to pull off.
Gaming fans have been making their own custom controllers for some time now, and as Sony shows no sign of releasing limited edition controllers for its exclusives, fans have taken it upon themselves to make them. Recently, fans have been making custom DualSense controllers for various titles,such asMarvel’s Spider-ManandMortal Kombat. Undoubtedly there will be more custom controllers to come in time.
