Hundreds ofHogwarts Legacyplayers have recently taken online to point out how the game, in spite of its many qualities, suffers from a bit of a design oversight when it comes to stores, positing that the newHarry PotterRPG is full of largely useless shops. Their discussion went viral on social media shortly after a number of frustratedHogwarts Legacyfans called for some wand changes.

Like many successful AAA titles,Hogwarts Legacyenjoyed a honeymoon period of sorts, wherein early impressions among the fandom were almost exclusively positive. That’s not to say therave user reviews ofHogwarts Legacyare undeserved, just that the game did such a good job at fulfilling so many people’s lifelong fantasy of an open-worldHarry PotterRPG that it took a while for the player discourse to have room for anything but highlighting the game’s strengths. Doubly so since early opposing views were mostly dominated by boycott calls due to J.K. Rowling’s anti-trans track record, so most of the initial criticism wasn’t focused on the game itself.

That state of affairs is now slowly changing as the hype surrounding the hit RPG keeps winding down, leading toHogwarts Legacydebates overHarry Potterlore, the aforementioned criticism of the game’s wand system, and—as of recently—its superficial handling of shops. Namely, a recent Reddit post questioning the purpose of one Keenbridge store due to its lackluster catalog prompted a widespread discussion with hundreds of responders, most of whom agreed thatHogwarts Legacyhas too many useless shops.

While some of the involved fans offered constructive feedback by suggesting changes in the form of an on-the-go ability to offload junk and more meaningful merchandise, others responded in jest, or adopted a more cynical view of things. One of the more critical fans claimed that all shops in the game exist solely as a way for players to sell random clothing pieces they don’t want to procure currency they don’t need, whether because they have plenty of it already or nothing to spend it on. Although many disagreed with that overly negative notion, the very debate illustrates how the developers still have plenty of ways to improve on their critically acclaimed RPG, both in the form of a sequel and potentialHogwarts LegacyDLC.

Whether the newHarry PotterRPG suffers from a useless shop problem or not, a large part of its target audience is still unable to chime in on that discussion. This will remain true until at least spring, seeing how Warner Bros. justdelayedHogwarts LegacyXbox One and PS4 portsyet again. Combined with the upcoming Switch version that’s scheduled to release even later,Hogwarts Legacyhas yet to be offered to hundreds of millions of potential buyers.

Hogwarts Legacyis available now on PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X/S, with PS4 and Xbox One versions launching May 5 and a Switch port releasing July 25.
