Summary
The spaceship part collecting side quest is one ofGrand Theft Auto 5’s more unusual missions, and it carries a bizarre mystery with it. While there is a reward at the end, as is the case with mostGrand Theft Automissions, it still leaves a lot for players to think about. It seems perfectly fitting that Franklin is the one who has to deal with the mission since he tends to be the one who has to put up with the strangest circumstances in-game.Grand Theft Auto 5has several mysteries, and this one actually has some sort of conclusion.
Although he’s best known forgetting roasted by Lamar inGTA 5, Franklin goes through a lot of absurd situations in his Strangers and Freaks missions. Although it starts with the relatively mundane task of helping his friend Tonya with her towing business, he ends up having to deal with several bizarre characters. Between working with a self-important paparazzo and meeting with an unpleasant thrill-seeker, one can easily assume that Franklin’s life would have been easier if he just stuck to heists. He even manages to solve a decades-old murder case in his spare time and punish the perpetrator.

GTA 5’s Spaceship Parts Have a Mysterious Origin
One of Franklin’s more unusual missions that is nonetheless required for anachievement inGrand Theft Auto 5is Omega’s Stranger mission. A hippie who lives out in the desert and is obsessed with aliens, Omega encounters Franklin and tells him a story about an interaction that he believes he had with aliens recently. It’s clear from the scene that Franklin doesn’t really believe him, but he agrees to find the spaceship parts that Omega tells him about anyway. The parts are scattered across Los Santos and can be found by anyone, but only Franklin can talk to Omega to begin and end the mission.
The reward for the mission is unfortunately not quite as impressive as thejetpack fromGTA: San Andreas, being a heavier, space-themed dune buggy that makes sci-fi noises when driven. However, what’s more interesting is the ending cutscene itself. After Franklin gives Omega the last piece, he is able to finish the device that he had been trying to build from them. It’s a small metal device that lights up and spins around, surprising Franklin and leaving Omega in high spirits. Despite Franklin’s skepticism, it seems that Omega had been right about the pieces being genuine alien technology all along.
The aliens don’t get any real focus, and nothing concrete is said about the device or its origins. However, like many ofGrand Theft Auto 5’s mysteries, there are some breadcrumbs to latch onto. In Omega’s own words, he had heard a message from an alien craft right before it crashed near Los Santos. As it turns out, there is a crashed UFO in the ocean in the northern part of the map. It’s possible that this could be the source of the device, with the pieces having fallen out before crashing into the ocean, but there has been no confirmation of this.
Whether the spaceship parts came from the crashed UFO or not, they make a strong case for the existence of aliens in theGrand Theft Autouniverse. It would be anunusual story move forGrand Theft Auto 6to follow up on this in a major way, since that may be too far into the realm of science-fiction for the series' norm. Regardless, the device being real was a surprising enough conclusion for the story. Players may not know the full truth behindGTA 5’s spaceship parts, but there’s enough of a foundation to keep them guessing.
Grand Theft Auto 5is available now for PC, PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox 360, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
