Disney Game has officially announced the development ofGargoyles Remastered. Today’s Disney & Marvel Games Showcase delivered announcement after announcement. Some viewers may even have blinked and missed the reveal ofGargoyles Remastered, which was stuck between longer segments forReturn to Monkey Islandand the newly announcedDisney Mirrorverse.

The originalGargoyleswas first released in 1995 for the Sega Genesis. The game was based on the animated television show of the same name and closely followed the show’s plot. It was developed byDisney Interactive, the same studio that made other Sega Genesis adaptations includingDisney’s Aladdin,Pinocchio,Pocahontas, andToy Story. It was, at the time, considered a strong release for the Sega Genesis but has largely been forgotten in the years since.

Very little information has been shared regardingGargoyles Remasteredso far. What has been confirmed is that it’s being developed for PC and modern consoles, and that’s about it. The announcement didn’t even feature gameplay of the remaster, instead showing six seconds of gameplay from the original game. Disney did acknowledge a memorable screaming audio file played whenGargoylesprotagonist Goliaththrows a Viking from the top of Castle Wyvern, which does imply a degree of dedication to authenticity.

There is some further information that can be speculated, based on Disney’s announcement ofGargoyles Remastered. Disney mentionsGargoyles Remasteredis a part of the company’sDisney Classic Games Collection, which includesThe Jungle Book,Aladdin, andThe Lion King. These three remasters were bundled together and released for PC, PS4, Switch, and Xbox One with updated 1080p visuals. They also featured a special Watch Mode feature that allows players to rewind or fast-forward gameplay. These are likely features that can be expected ofGargoyles Remasteredas well, but that has yet to be confirmed.

The announcement ofGargoyles Remasteredis timely. In July, Disney and Dynamite Entertainment announced a continuation of thecult classic cartoonin the form of a new comic. The comic is being described as a new “season” ofGargoylesand is even being made with input fromGargoylescreator Greg Weisman. The comic is set to be released in late 2022.

ForGargoylesfans, this is a great opportunity to revisit a classic game that’s otherwise unavailable in 2022. It’s also an opportunity to let Disney know whetherGargoylesstill has a fanbase anymore. While attempts to rebootGargoyleshave struggled to gain a footing, a successful remastered video game and comic could go a long way to help.

Gargoyles Remasteredis currently in development.
