A Swedish gamer recently posted a permanent tribute to their father with a tattoo fromRatchet and Clank, their dad’s favorite video game series. The gamer then posted theRatchet and Clanktattoo on social media, where other gamers showed support and told stories of their own gaming experiences with their families.
While not for everyone, tattoos have long been a way for people to show tributes to important figures and moments in their lives, or to express themselves visibly. Though tattoos also can be covered up in case some memories turn sour, the tales they tell are irreplaceable. The tattoo that one gamer got to honor their father comes with a story that goesback over 20 years to the PS2 erawhen theRatchet and Clankseries made its debut.

On Reddit, a user named SwiftIy2 posted a picture on the r/gaming subreddit of theRatchet and Clanktattoo they got to pay tribute to his father. While his father is still alive at the time of writing, SwiftIy2 said that he is getting older now and wanted to do so while he still had time to show him. The tattoo that SwiftIy2 got portrayed Clank, the robotic half of the series' titular duo. The reason behind the Clank tattoo, in SwiftIy2’s words, was because his father used to play the first threeRatchet and Clankgames on the PS2 over 20 years ago. Even though he first started gaming well into his 60s, SwiftIy2 claimed that his fatherplayed through thoseRatchet and Clankgamesso much that he had completed each part of the original trilogy at least 200 times each. Needless to say, such a feat takes remarkable fortitude at any age.

SwiftIy2’s post received over 1.5k upvotes on r/gaming in less than a day, with many comments offering praise for the post, and sharing memories of gaming with their own families. WhiletheRatchet and Clankgames have memorable characters, the two main characters have stood the test of time as Insomniac’s mascots since the 2000s. With Clank serving as a methodical if apprehensive foil to Ratchet’s happy-go-lucky personality, only time will tell when and where their next adventures will take them in this console generation.
Even thoughthe nextRatchet and Clankgame is still some time away, given Insomniac’s schedule and ongoing work withSpider-Man 2and other projects, fans such as SwiftIy2 and his father may still remember and relish the memories made of the series so far. What comes afterRatchet and Clank: Rift Apartremains to be seen.
Ratchet and Clank: Rift Apartis available now for PS5.
