TheNintendo Switchhas managed to impress the gaming community with its substantial range of first-party and third-party games. The inclusion of third-party games has helped theNintendo Switch reach higher than some of its predecessorsand it now seems that more games in the next-generation of consoles could be ported to the system. Virtuous Studios has ported many high profile games for the Switch likeOuter Worlds,Dark Souls: Remastered, andBioshock: The Collection,and now has high hopes to continue this practice with more complex games.
Considering its resume, Virtuous has plenty of experience bringing excellent games to the Nintendo Switch, yet with the next generation around the corner, these ports may become more difficult. There are alreadydetails emerging about games for the PlayStation 5and the Xbox Series X, and the VP of Virtuos is sure the company can adapt to the technology.

VP of Virtuos, Elijah Freeman, says that the company “believe[s] that 2020 will be the year of game-centric development, where players will expect as standard a consistency of experience with their favorite games. With the launch of the new Xbox Series X and PlayStation 5 this year, developers need to strategize and plan for the game experience to be consistent across all platforms.” He then addressed the issue of the strategic plans for the company by saying, “At Virtuos we are charged up and full of talent that is ready to help bring these new games to the Nintendo Switch.” This is a bold claim that should excite fans of theNintendo Switch.
It will be interesting to see what games are ported to the Switch and how well they will run. While largely applauded, titles likeThe Witcher 3: Wild Huntdid have graphic downgradeson the Switch and this will continue to be a challenge with better-looking games in the future. Achieving the consistency that Freeman addressed will be the real challenge for the Nintendo Switch console and developers for the system like Virtuos.
There is already excitement about thegraphic capabilities of the PlayStation 5and so there is plenty of doubt about whether the Switch can keep up. However, ports of great games have helped build a strong library for the Nintendo Switch and developers will continue to assist in that endeavor for as long as possible.
