Summary
News of theGame of Thronesspin-off featuring Jon Snow (Kit Harington) is tenuous at best, but one actor is ready and willing to join the cast.
It will likely be a while before fans hear if theJon Snow series will happen. Though Harington is pushing to revisit his noble character fromGame of Thrones, many obstacles are in the way. Most notable is the Hollywood strike passing its 100th day with no resolution. The WGA initially went on strike in May due to insufficient wages that stem from the streaming culture. Writers can no longer benefit from syndication residuals, meaning many struggle financially. The actors guild, SAG-AFTRA, quickly follow suit, and studios have yet to come to the table with anything.

However, that doesn’t stop one formerGame of Thronesactor from dreaming. In addition to Harington reprising his role from the original series, Liam Cunningham has also thrown his name in the ring. The prolific actor gained affection from the audience for playing the moral Ser Davos, a former smuggler who forges a strong bond with Jon in the later seasons. “I did send [Kit] a text saying, ‘Better Call Davos,'" Cunningham toldDen of Geekwhen he heard about the potential for the spin-off. Though there is no word on if anything will come of it, he did add, “I wish them the best to whoever’s involved in it, and if the check is big enough, I might even show up again!”
Cunningham’s most recent credits include the upcoming film,The Last Voyage of the Demeter. The movie takes the story from asingle chapter of Bram Stoker’sDraculaand depicts the events of the dark lord causing chaos on a ship at sea. No stranger to sea life, Cunningham seems to have no problem rehashing roles as the sea-faring crabber. And if anyone were to appear in theGame of ThronesJon Snow series, Davos would be chief among them. First pledging his sword to the humorless Stannis Baratheon (Stephen Dillane) in The War of the Five Kings, Davos changed sides after seeing the Red Woman, Melisandre (Carice van Houten), burn Princess Shireen (Kerry Ingram). He joined Jon in a partnership that makes a lot of sense. The two share a sense of duty and doing what’s right. Davos took the war against the dead particularly seriously, especially after he saw Melisandre resurrect Jon. After that, he was a faithful comrade in arms and supported Jon implicitly.
If the series ever makes it to order, the show will be an opportunity to right the wrongs of thebadGame of Thronesfinale. Notoriously divisive, the show’s ending featured many strange decisions, like Jon’s exile to The Wall and never seeing his family again. Daenerys Targaryen (Emilia Clarke) also had a brutal demise where she went from a person who cared about liberation to a Mad Queen in a matter of episodes. A Jon Snow sequel could potentially succeed by retconning the ending into Jon ascending the Iron Throne like he was supposed to. And a king in exile needs a valiant supporter still beloved byGame of Thronesfans.
