FormerF-Zero GXproducer, Toshihiro Nagoshi, states that he’d be open with working with Nintendo again to make a new entry in the series.F-Zero GXis one of the Nintendo GameCube’s defining titles, where some consider it one of the best racing games on the console. Despite its critical success,GXis a rather niche title when compared to Nintendo’s most notable franchises likeMarioandZelda. Despite this,F-Zerohas a dedicated following, withGXin particular being praised as one of the best games in the small series.

Before Nagoshi would become well-known asthe creator of Sega’sLike a Dragonfranchise, he was the president of Sega’s Amusement Vision team. This studio would go on to create the seminalSuper Monkey Ballseries, where the first two games were GameCube exclusive launch titles. One of the titles developed under the AV banner was the Nintendo-producedF-Zero GX. While the studio would go on to become Ryu Ga Gotoku Studio down the line, Nagoshi expresses his fondness over the project and would like to return to the series one day.

In a VGC interview, Nagoshi was asked aboutF-Zero GXsince 2023 marked the game’s 20th anniversary. He stated that he had very nostalgic memories of the game, believing that it was when he “learned” how to create a high quality game that satisfied its users. Nagoshi then stated he believed that if given the chance, he’d use all the knowledge that he gained over the last two decades to work on the series again.

When Nagoshi was asked if his new studio could possibly give himthe opportunity to return to theF-Zeroseriesone day, he simply laughed, stating that it would be better suited as a “question for Nintendo” instead. Fans of Nintendo’s dormant franchise have been starving for a new entry in the series, as the last title released was the GBA exclusive titleF-Zero Climaxalmost two decades ago.

There are plenty of Nintendo veterans who want to seeF-Zeromake a comeback, such as former series artist Takaya Imamura and former Nintendo of America president Reggie Fils-Aime. There were rumors ofa remaster ofF-Zero GXbeing developed by Next Level Gamesthat was circulating earlier this March, but no official announcement has been made yet on that front. As for Nagoshi himself, he left Sega in 2021 to open up a new development studio under NetEase known as Nagoshi Studio.
