How To Unlock Retainers In Final Fantasy 14
As mentioned before, retainers are NPCs the player can hire and customize, and they offer a variety of services. Through them, it’s possible tosell items on the Market Board, store items and gil, and even assign them a class and send them exploring. To unlock them, some requirements must be met first. Players must reach level 17 and complete the Main Scenario Quest “TheScions of the Seventh Dawn,” as retainers will only be available after that.
It’s important to note that even if those requirements are met,Free Trial players won’t have access to retainers. They will only be available after purchasing a subscription.

Once that is done, the player can speak to theRetainer Vocatein any of the major cities to start using retainers. you may find them in the locations listed below:
After hiring a retainer, players will be asked to customize their appearance, which will take them to the character creation screen. Every option available for the player character will also be available for retainers, and they can be changed later on through the use of Retainer Fantasia, which players can get in Quick Exploration ventures or buy through the Market Board. Othercustomization options, such as Glamour and Dyeing, can also be used on retainers.

After a retainer is hired, they can be accessed through theSummoning Bellseen above. These are available in every major city, every player housing area, endgame city hubs, inn rooms, and more. Once they are summoned, the player will be presented with a menu offering every possible use of retainers.
What Are Retainers Used For In Final Fantasy 14
Retainers can be very useful to players, especially when it comes to gil and items. This doesn’t mean earning gil and items exclusively, but also managing and making it easy to use the Market Board.
Players can entrust or withdraw items, an option that opens their inventory alongside the retainer’s inventory. This way, it’s possible to organize items according to what is more important to keep in the inventory and save space.

Another feature that adds to it is the ability toentrust duplicatesto them. If a retainer is given a stackable item, such as gathered materials, this button sends everything to the retainer immediately, meaning the player can keep gathering and easily transferring the items to the retainer, without bothering too much about thespace in their inventory.
Another useful point is that items in both inventories can be selected to be sold on the market, and each retainer can sell up to 20 types of items at once. Gil can also be entrusted to retainers, although there is no advantage to doing that unless playersreach the maximum amount of gil. Withdrawing gil from retainers is relevant, though, because any gil earned from selling on the market will stay with the retainer until the player withdraws it.

Lastly, retainers can besent on Ventures. Through them, it is possible to earn a variety of items, including very rare rewards, but some preparations must be made before this option is available.
How To Unlock Retainer Ventures In Final Fantasy 14
Ventures are missions that players can assign to their retainers to earn rewards, some of which can be rare and exclusive items. To participate in that, retainers must be assigned a job and properly geared, and as they complete missions they will level up, increasing the level of the missions in turn.
Ventures won’t be initially available and must be unlocked by completing the quest"An Ill-conceived Venture.“It’s a Content Unlock Quest, so it has a blue symbol, and it starts with the NPC Troubled Adventurer. There are different NPCs with that name in New Gridania (X: 11.8, Y: 12.3), Limsa Lominsa Lower Decks (X: 9.0, Y: 11.2), and Ul’dah - Steps of Nald (X: 9.3, Y: 8.7), all offering the same quest. Players can pick up the quest from any of them, regardless of where they started the game, and Ventures will be available once the quest is completed.

The player can send their retainer on a Venture after that by summoning the retainer and choosing the “Assign Venture” option in the menu. Before that, though, the retainer needs to be assigned a job and equipped properly with level 1 gear. Any Disciple of War, Magic, or Land class can be used, as long as the player started leveling it themselves before. Additionally, the retainer can only level up until the levelthe Warrior of Lightpossesses in that job, meaning theycannot reach max level in a job the player hasn’t maxed out yet.
Much like the player, retainers start with a class and level up until they get a job crystal, going from Marauder to Warrior, for example. If they reach a high enough level and the player has unlocked classes added later that start at higher levels, such as Reaper, it will be possible to assign those jobs to the retainer. To upgrade to jobs, it’s also necessary to buy a Modern Vocation from a Retainer Vocate. It’s alsopossible to change classat any time, but the retainer will lose all progress in the previous class if that happens.

Types Of Ventures In FF14
The first type of venture is based on the retainer’s class. These aretargeted Venturesin which retainers will seek out specific itemsaccording to their class. Disciples of War and Magic will be focused on Hunting,Miners on Mining, Botanists on Botany, and Fisherson Fishing.
The second type allows retainers to explore as they see fit but takes much longer to complete. There is a chance retainers will bring back rarer items, though, and they will receive a lot more experience foropen exploration Ventures. Disciples of War and Magic will have Field Exploration available, while Miners will have Highland Exploration, Botanists will have Woodland Exploration, and Fishers will have Waterside Exploration.

Lastly, there areQuick Exploration Ventures. These can only be assigned to retainers level 10 or above, and although they are faster, they reward only a single item that is completely random. Because of that, the player might get incredible rewards or worthless items, and the amount of XP the retainer will gain varies according to the rarity of the item they brought back.
How To Get More Retainers In Final Fantasy 14
Only two retainers are available initially, and there is no way to increase that number without spending money. For those willing to pay, though, it is possible to get 8 more retainers, granting the player atotal of 10 retainers.
7 additional retainers can be hired at theMog Stationthrough a subscription fee. Each additional retainer costs $2.00 for 30 days. Because the retainer subscription period will be the same as the game’s subscription time remaining for the account, the initial price will be calculated on a prorated basis. When it comes to recurring subscriptions, the retainer service will automatically be added to that, following the same billing cycle.
Final Fantasy 14’s Companion App adds one retainer for those who register for the premium plan. This service costs $5.00 for 30 days, with the initial cost being calculated according to the subscription time remaining, much like the subscription fee at the Mog Station.
