Microsoft recently announced thatMinecraftPlayStation 4 Editionwill be updating and switching over to Bedrock Edition. This is major news for all fans out there, as it means thatMinecraftis now more connected then ever.Minecrafthas always strived for accessibility and connectivity between all players, keeping multiple editions up to date simultaneously rather than cutting off any, and this new update may see the game finally reach this lofty goal. But what does all this really mean? And how will Bedrock edition forMinecrafton PlayStation 4 help players stay connected with each other around the world?
For those that don’t know,Minecrafthas been running on three editions up till now: Java Edition, where it all began, Console Edition (now known as Legacy Console Edition), and Bedrock Edition. Java Edition is whatMinecrafton PC originally ran on, and is still the most up to date version chock full of mods and other content. Legacy Console Edition was what all of the consoles ran, andMinecrafton PlayStation 4 is currently the only console still running this edition. Finally, Bedrock Edition is used by all other consoles, including PC, and is the second most updated Edition.The main benefit of Bedrock Editionis the cross-play capabilities, a feature now coming to PlayStation 4.

The history of cross-play on PlayStation 4 is somewhat slow, as Sony has been very hesitant to allow it on the console. That has since changed, however, as after the debacle last year overcross-play inFortnite,Sony has officially introduced cross-play to PlayStation 4. Since then, a number of titles have been added to the ever expanding list of games with cross-play support, andMinecraftis now the newest addition. This means thatMinecraftplayers on PlayStation 4 will be able to play with players on Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, and even PC players who opt to use the Bedrock Edition. And the best part of all of this? The update comes completely free to all who already own Minecraft PlayStation 4 Edition. Just download the update that came out yesterday and players should be good to go.
While cross-play is huge, players are itching for new features as well, so what is new with the latestMinecraftupdate? For starters, players will gain access to theMinecraftMarketplace, which stores loads of player-made content accessible across all platforms. But beyond that, all ofMinecraftBedrock Edition is getting a new patch, dubbed the Buzzy Bees Update. This predictably adds bees toMinecraft, along with honey, honeycombs, beehives, and more bee related things. This has been available for Java Edition since November, but its inclusion in the Bedrock Edition means that Bedrock is nearly completely caught up with Java.

Bees provide many benefits to players that choose to interact with them. Besides being extremely adorable, bees will seek out empty beehives which the player can build to call home, and will then begin to generate honey. Honey can be used to cure poison or buildhoney blocks, the latter of which can slow down mobs (similar to soul sand) and break falls. Bees that have access to flowers will even pollinate crops, speeding up the rate at which they grow. These buzzy buddies are sure to be useful to players.
Minecraftis still incredibly popular, and still going strong. It is now the secondbest selling video gamein history at 176 million copies sold (behind only Tetris at 500+ million), and continues to provide its fanbase with desired updates and accessibility. All of these features are available for PlayStation 4 players as of yesterday, so load up the game and start beekeeping, now with friends from other consoles.
