It shouldn’t come as a surprise that one of the largest video game companies is looking to hire for upcoming projects. At Electronic Arts, there is always something coming down the pipeline to be worked on. EA is known for its massive sports franchises,FIFAcontinues to provide football fans with content, andMaddenis the go-to American football franchise. But a new job posting at EA is leading to speculation about something new in its mobile division.
While the first thing to enter gamers' minds when EA is mentioned might be its sports lineup, the company does have a hand in a number of different properties and other facets of the gaming world.EA filed a patent for facial expression technologythat could be a game-changer, offering a greater range of expressions and some that could be very context heavy.

Listed as a contract position, EA is looking for a mobile game designer to work with its EA FUEL team, a division of EA Sports. While the posting is popping up on job boards right now, it appears to have been open for a few weeks. This posting could be to work on an existing mobile title like theFIFAorMaddenmobile games, but usually, EA is upfront about which franchise a potential employee would be working on.
One theory is that this mobile game designer position could be linked to therecently trademarked “Fury Soccer” that EA applied forback in November. With speculation that the trademark could be DLC for an existing EA property, linking this job posting to a possible “Fury Soccer” mode coming toFIFAis one way to look at things. EA has so many branches under their purview at this point that it is impossible to know if “Fury Soccer” would be linked toFIFAor if it could be a game mode in any number of the company’s other properties.
While this job posting is floating around out there, the company continues to work on other projects as well, such as itsnew matchmaking system patentthat could apply to a game likeApex Legends.
The company has run into trouble with some of its difficult algorithms, like inFIFA 21where the difficulty ramped upin a way that forced many players to make microtransactions to continue. The new matchmaking system looks to prioritize the quality of a game, so hopefully less shady than theFIFAsystem.
While it remains to be seen just what this job posting could mean for mobile titles with EA, the vague language around just what is involved makes it stand out.
